Secladin
Continent: Laenor
Level Limit: Max level 30, Enforced by a blocking monster
Description:
Quests:- A great place to grind EXP, but it requires a more skilled character in the 20-30 level range as there are a ton of aggressive monsters here.
- The aggressive monsters wander so don't let your HP get low or try to rush through this area.
- LQ25: Save Secladin Village
- Go into the well and "search wall" for the key
- Make a raft: (give food to the carpenter to get 5 pieces of wood and then have the mastersmith construct the raft)
- Unlock the house in the village and kill Arnold the betrayer
- Kill two gibberlings in the caverns to get the stone key and the jeweled key
- Free the dwarf and solve the riddle
- Kill progressively tougher monsters until you get to the mage.
- Kill the mage, get the flask, go back to the well and "pour flask"
- Bonus Quest (Secret): Secladin Bonus
- Go NW of the quiet place and follow trail
- "search leaves" and kill the wood elemental.
- Take the doll and give it to the depressed man in the village
- Untracked Bonus Quest: Help Drecon get his signet ring back.
- Go to the pond outside the town and "dive" to enter it
- Once there, kill a giant catfish and pick up the ring it drops
- Go into the town and give drecon the ring
- Drecon will return the ring he lost and regain his job. He will then reward you 800 gold for your effort.
- There is no official/trackable quest reward from this, but it's still neat!
Equipment:
- Flowing bracelet
- +1 STR
- From defeating the water elemental
- A soft glove
- +2 WIS
- From defeating Eluvia
- Lots of opportunities to make money if you can solo gibberlings in the caverns
- highsteel longswords sell for between 200 - 300 gold
- steel breastplates sell for between 1800 and 2000 gold
- dark longswords sell for around 1200 gold
- Highsteel breastplates sell for around 2000 - 2200 gold
Open Questions:
- Whatever happened to Arnold? Can you find him and kill him?
Notes:
Entrance (Narrow Path and Glade):
- You quickly come upon the huge gibberling which will prevent high level players (lv30+) from entering the glade
- There are a ton of creatures in the glade. A lot of them move, and all of them pick up dropped items which means you have to be careful you are burying all the corpses as your rip_action might miss a corpse a creature dropped.
- WARNING: The gibberlings wander as well, so you may find them in places other then where they are marked on the map.
- Sometimes the gibberlings will jump out from hiding an ambush you
- In the pond, you can "dive" to go underwater where there are some fish to kill
- In particular there is a large catfish that will sometimes drop a large golden ring. This is part of a secret quest!
- Go into the village and give Drecon the ring. He had lost it and along with it, his job of helping to administer the town.
- Drecon will thank you and then slowly leave to visit the Elder. Once there he gives the ring to the Elder and gets his job back. He will then slowly return to his house.
- After that, if you wait a minute or two, Drecon will thank you again and give you around 800 gold as a reward.
- There's no "official" quest reward, but this is still a cool bit of lore.
- In the grove there are a bunch of rotten fruit.
- The description says that maybe a gibberling would like it.
- Not sure if there is any advantage to giving it to gibberlings...
- In the main gate and south gate, the gate guards will block you from entering the city
- In the north gate, it's only guarded by an inexperienced recruit who will let you in with no problems.
- Bonus mini-quest: Go NW from the quiet place in the forest and "follow path"
- I'll admit if I never had read a spoiler for this I would have never found it. I don't see anything in the room description that would imply this is an option.
- Give this doll to the depressed man in the village.
Village:
- Harrison the visiting mage is in the eastern tent when you enter the village from the north
- If you "ask Harrison about villagers" he says someone poisoned the water and recommended investigating the well.
- If you "ask Harrison about well" he says someone poured a transformation elixir in it, turning villagers into gibberlings.
- If you "ask Harrison about gibberlings" he says he has been magically helping the animals and that Kalinth is organizing the guards.
- In the western home, there is a carpenter.
- They will trade you lumber for a fruit/food item. This item changes so you need to ask them first.
- You can buy the fruit from the grocer.
- For the level quest, you will need to give them five items that they want to get five planks of wood.
- In Elder Mersoon's home you can talk to them.
- If you "ask elder about well" he tells you the same story Harrison told you.
- If you "ask elder about ring" he tells you that Drecon had his signet ring but lost it so he gave the job to Sander
- In Sander's home, he says he is too busy to talk to you, but it is a non-standard reply to questions so he may say something to the right prompt.
- At the butcher shop, Jason will sell you some meat
- In the grocery, you can buy some non-rotten fruit to give to the carpenter
- In the smithy, if you have five pieces of wood from the carpenter you can "purchase raft" for 100 gold.
- This raft is required to complete the level quest
- In Drecon's house you can "ask drecon about ring". He says the elder trusted him with it and he lost the ring.
- He was the previous assistant but he lost the ring so now Sander has the job
- In another house is a depressed man. If you ask him about his family he says his daughter disappeared into the forest, then his wife transformed.
- Give him the doll to complete the bonus quest. This quest will show up in your completed quest list. Also, it is a secret quest!
- Text when you complete it:
- You give a child's doll to Depressed man.
- Man tells you 'Thank you so much for returning this doll to me, it is all I have left of my daughter now.'
- Congratulations! You have just completed Secladin bonus!
- You feel more experienced!
- IMPORTANT: At the well, "turn crank" to make sure the bucket is lowered before going into the well.
- At the well, "enter well" to go into it.
- Once in the well, "search side" to find a key
- Then "climb rope" to leave the well.
- If you were unlucky and the bucket was not lowered, a villager will lower it after a couple of minutes. You just need to wait.
- The key will unlock the house in the southern side of the village.
- Inside the locked house is Arnold the Betrayer, who I'm just going to guess is involved in the whole well poisoning scheme.
- If you successfully defeat Arnold, he will run away before you can kill him and open up an entrance in the fireplace
Caverns Behind the Fireplace:
- IMPORTANT: Make sure you have the raft before continuing. You don't want to make it all the way through here and have to go back because you didn't have it.
- There are two aggressive gibberlings patrolling around the caverns that you need to kill because they drop two keys, a jeweled key, and a stone key.
- These gibberlings hit harder than their EXP worth would leave you to believe.
- There are aggressive slimes wandering around down in the caverns as well
- The stone key will unlock the door to the prison
- Inside the prison is a dwarf held captive. If you "free dwarf" (requires the jeweled key), the dwarf will give you a hint about the puzzle as they saw Arnold solve it quickly when they came running past.
- For example: Stonesealer grumbles, 'I did not actually see the human push in all of the blocks, but the first three were white, then orange and then red. I hope that helps.
- Push in all of the blocks in the correct order. For example, "push white", "push orange", "push red"
- Wait for a "block settles into place with a *CLUNK*" before pushing the next one in
- When you want to test the order, "pull lever". If all the blocks pop out then you guessed wrong and need to try again.
- For me it was white, orange, red, green, blue, yellow
- There are some elite gibberlings you need to kill when wandering around the windy passage
- At the end of the passage is a water elemental that is very difficult (20k+ EXP).
- That being said, I was able to solo them with my riftwalker mage, though it took a number of attack/retreat/regen cycles
- Make sure you pick up the flowing bracelets that the elemental drops since they are a good piece of newbie equipment.
- If you have the raft, you can now go into the river.
- Be warned: You'll take some damage going through the river
- Next up is tackling (aka killing) the mage behind all of this
- Just a warning, she casts a custom spell "AQUA WAVE ASTERIRE" that can all players and does a ton of damage.
- When you kill her she drops a soft glove which is a good piece of newbie equipment.
- She also drops a flask that is used to complete the LQ
- Go into the next room with the whirlpool and enter the hole. This will take you back to the entrance of secladin by the sign.
- To complete the LQ, go back to the well, go into the well, and "pour flask". When you do that, the following text will appear:
- You pour the contents of the flask into the well.
- You watch as the elixir bubbles slightly, and a toxic odor is given off.
- Whatever poison was in the water has been eradicated now.
- Congratulations! You have just completed Save secladin village!
