Village of Shrea (Also known as Hobbit Farmhouse, and Alchemist House)

Image
Continent:  Lucetium Description: A great newbie area with lots of areas to explore, many of secrets to learn, and easy to kill monsters that are not aggressive (until you go into the woods that is). Also you can become a beekeeper to earn some extra money which is always nice! Warning: Beekeeping is an investment (both time and money) and might not be a great newbie money activity Quests: Area Quest: Alchemist's Dilemma I won't spoil much here but this is an easy area quest that anyone can do That being said, one part of the quest can only be completed at night (as in nighttime inside of Batmud). You can check the time using the "time" command. Equipment: N one that I know of.  Open Questions: I need to look into the caravan side quests. See "help caravan" in batmud In the brewery cellar, is it possible to drink from the barrels (or for that matter do anything cool down there)? Seems like a lot of work to get somewhere so boring. I keep earning reputation w...

Orc Scouts

Image
Continent:  Laenor Description: A good newbie (as in players lower than level 20) area The area quest rewards a decent amount of money (around 15k gold) which can be repeated once a day. The red rockets dropped here are a popular way to shout messages to the rest of the mud Note: Many of the bullies don't leave corpses which makes it less interesting for guilds that need corpses. Quests: Area Quest: Scouts Note: This quest is not listed on the bat.org website Equipment: Orc scout field guide Sells for around 3.5k gold so it is worth picking up even if you can't use it. Reward for finding the orc scout treasure Supposedly if you wield this then it will grant you a bonus to your consider skill I suspect there is a level limit to this item as it did not do anything for my Level 27 character Red Rockets These allow you to send a message to the entire MUD Only the first 31 characters will be displayed Use "message %" to set the message the rocket should say Next drop rocke...

Newbie Crystite Equipment

Image
Overview: Crystite equipment can be used by players up to level 60 (at which point it will stop working). You can earn credits to buy this equipment from the Crystite Trading Post in Dortlewall by turning in crystite fragments you find in the Dortlewall mines. Here is a guide to the Dortlewall Crystite Mines One important point though is you will stop being able to earn Crystite credits after level 40. So the equipment will last you longer, but after level 40 you will stop being able to get new equipment. The equipment can be very useful, but it's hard to tell what it will do for you until you spend your credits and buy it. Hence this guide! Note: You can view <item number> to get an overview of equipment when you are in the shop. The information below provides actual numbers for the bonus to stats, plus damage information gained from the "compare" skill to rank crystite weapons next to other Batmud weapons. I want to give credit to the  The BatMUD Information Sho...

Dortlewall Crystite Mine

Image
Continent:  Laenor Description: Located in the newbie town of Dortlewall Area for newbies to grind EXP and to obtain a currency called crystite to purchase newbie equipment The equipment is *very* good, but will only work until you are level 60 Level Limit: There is a hard level limit of 40. Aka players level 41 and greater can not enter the mines Quests: Area Quest: It's a Drill You need to fix a broken drill on the second level of the mine To do this you need to find three machine parts. I'm told the machine parts can spawn differently for different players.  Aka where you get the parts will be different, as well as what parts show up where.  For example, one person searching the junk in the abandoned food store will find a Stone Pin, and another person might find a Ring with Ball Bearings.  Also one person might need to scavenge the broken drill while that drill might be empty for another person. You will briefly visit here if you are following the Batmud Story "T...

100 Acre Forest

Image
Continent:  Laenor Description: Newbie area based on Winnie the Pooh but but with Durand tormenting the inhabitants. There are also some references to older Batmud players. This is a surprisingly empty area. Not much going on.  Come here once for the explore experience, but no real reason to come back. Editor's note: I do not like this area at all. Quests: N one that I know of.  Equipment: N one that I know of.  Open Questions: What is up with the dead piglet? Map: Notes: General Notes (Not much going on here): I believe that the random inhabitants are based on the names of early players of Batmud What is up with the dead corpse of piglet?!!!! Kill Tracker: A fluffy Squirrel 3100 exp An old bunny named Rabbit 2700 exp A wise old owl 2600 exp

Newbie Taskmaster

Image
Continent:  Laenor Description: Home of LQ26. No real reason to visit here unless you are doing the level quest. The first three tasks are hunt and return type tasks in mini-areas. The last two tasks are built on famous logic puzzles. The quest description mentions needing a high charisma to complete one of the tasks but I didn't really notice where that check would occur. I completed it with a CHA of 98. Quests: LQ26: Jarear's Assignments Equipment: N one that I know of.  Open Questions: Do the tasks save across reboot? I did not want to test this one. I'd recommend doing them all in one go. In the farmer task there seems to be some interesting parts to the south of it. Can you explore that farther, or is it just some leftover bits to give the area some "flair"? Map: Notes: Overview: You can use the command "task" to check for available tasks You can use the command "start <taskname>" to begin a task You can use the command "info ...

Newberry Park

Image
Continent:  Laenor Description: Nice newbie area for very low level players No aggressive monsters in the "park" portion of it. But you need to "look" for most creatures to kill There are a lot of aggressive goblins in the caves beneath the oak. You likely need to be smaller than size 60 to enter the goblin caves. Quests: N one that I know of.  Equipment: N one that I know of.  Open Questions: I wonder if it is possible to kill the park ranger... Map: Notes: Entrance (Park): When walking along the beach, if you "look at rocks", creatures will appear. You can do this multiple times Occasionally you will get a message that you cut your hand, causing -1 hp damage In the fields, "look at flowers" and butterflies will spawn to kill You can do this multiple times Occasionally you will get a message that a nettle will burns, causing -1 hp damage In the lake you can "look at lilies" to cause frogs to appear You can do this multiple times Occasi...
