Dortlewall Crystite Mine

Continent: Laenor

Description:
  • Located in the newbie town of Dortlewall
  • Area for newbies to grind EXP and to obtain a currency called crystite to purchase newbie equipment
  • The equipment is *very* good, but will only work until you are level 60
Level Limit:
  • There is a hard level limit of 40. Aka players level 41 and greater can not enter the mines
Quests:

  • Area Quest: It's a Drill
    • You need to fix a broken drill on the second level of the mine
    • To do this you need to find three machine parts.
    • I'm told the machine parts can spawn differently for different players.
      • Aka where you get the parts will be different, as well as what parts show up where.
      • For example, one person searching the junk in the abandoned food store will find a Stone Pin, and another person might find a Ring with Ball Bearings.
      • Also one person might need to scavenge the broken drill while that drill might be empty for another person.
  • You will briefly visit here if you are following the Batmud Story "The Rogues and the Reeve"
Equipment:
Open Questions:
  • What are all the stats on the equipment you can get from the crystite trading post?
  • How can you mine the crystite veins
  • How do you get past the barracade?
  • What is up with the woman controlling all the golems?
  • What is up with the shadowy figure attacking the mines? What happens when you kill them?

Map:

(Disclaimer: The green mist filled rooms in the bottom level change every boot)
Map of Crystite Mine
Notes:

Crystitie Trading Post:
  • This is right outside of the mine and to the East. This is where you can deposit your crystite and purchase newbie equipment with it.
  • Value of crystite items to deposit:
    • Crystite Chip: 4 - 5 credits
    • Crystite Pebble: 6 - 10 credits
    • Crystite Nugget: 11 - 19 credits
    • Crystite Rock: 21 - 29 credits
    • Crystite Slab: 41 - 61 credits
    • Crystite Boulder: 124 - 428 credits
Mine Entrance (Entry Level):
  • Many of the creatures will drop crystitie pebbles when you kill them. Pick these up and redeem them at the Crystitie Trading Post.
  • I was actually able to kill the Mine Supervisor on my own, making them one of the easiest 30k monsters to kill.
    • They also drop a crystite boulder which is nice if you are farming crystitie
  • In the mess hall you can buy a meal for 5 gold which will completely fill you up and refresh you.
    • It's actually a pretty good deal if your character is getting hungry
  • Also in the mess hall, if you attack one of the miners, they will all turn aggresive
  • In the engineering room, you can "search hard hats" to find a hard hat.
    • Not very useful, but I figured I should point this out.
  • The engineer is also tough (35k monster), but still killable by my Riftwalker
    • They also drop a crystite boulder
First Level of the Mine:
  • Note, some of the dwarves seemed to change position between boots. Aka there will be dwarves in the rooms marked on the map but they may be different types. But the dwarves themselves don't seem to wander.
  • The intoxicated dwarf drops a random alcoholic drink when you kill them
    • This is a good spot to get free drinks if you are doing the Batmud Story "The Rogues and the Reeve"
  • In the room by the pool, you can "dive pool" to go underwater
    • If you stay too long underwater you will drown (unless you are an undead race)
    • If you search rubble, it will take around 30 seconds to perform the search, but you can find a crystite slab
  • In the eastern end of the tunnel, there is an exposed crystite vein. The room description says if you were skilled as the miners you could mine it
    • When I reincarnated into a character with the mining skill I could "mine crystite" in this room, which was a nice bonus.
  • In the west branch from the main entrance, there is a pile of rubble. If you "search rubble" an aggressive scorpion will pop out and sting you, stunning you for a couple of rounds.
  • At the end of the tunnel is a lair guarded by a hideously mutated rat. It drops a cystite boulder! Also if you search the pile you will find another crystite slab.
  • Going to the south from the level entrance, and then to the east, you will enter a small storeroom being occupied by a trader.
    • If you look at list you can see what they sell. They only accept crystite credits!
    • For me they were selling a machine part for the area quest for 50 credits.
    • If you "open curtain" you will reveal a hidden exit to the south
    • If you "ask trader about note" they respond that they lost it or somebody stole it.
    • The trader will block your way south.
  • In the back room to the south is a large combination safe. It has 4 dials you need to find the combo for.
    • That is 10k combos, so you are unlikely to guess it.
    • I assume the note the trader is looking for has the combo written on it.
    • I blew up the safe using my Riftwalker's dimensional leech spell ;p
    • The safe contained a crystite slab.
  • If you continue to the south along the large tunnel, you will periodically be hit by falling rocks for 50 - 100 damage.
    • If you wear a hard hat (obtained from one of the miners) you will be protected from most of this damage, but the rocks will still do around 10 - 20 damage.
  • Going south, there is a kobold scavenging. If you kill them, they drop a note.
    • I couldn't read the note, but this might be because I destroyed the safe...
    • When I did this again it said to give the note to the trader. I did and the trader gave me some money. I did not find out the combo for the safe.
Second Level of the Mine:
  • Heading to the west from the second level entrance you will come upon an underground town
  • The scavenger in the town entrance drops a crystite slab and a backpack if you kill them
    • The backpack can be very useful for newbies if you don't have something for your rig slot.
  • To the north is an abandoned food store
    • If you search the machine parts it says there might be something useful but you don't know what you are looking for.
      • For the Area Quest: If you search this trash after asking the engineer about the list you may find a drill part. For example a "round thing with balls in it". The parts don't always spawn here though. So it may or may not have a part here.
  • The peddlar is selling a piece of machine equipment for a piece of food!
    • This is for the area quest
    • Make sure you ask the peddlar about wares first. Then give them food.
    • If you give them food first, they will not give you anything.
    • They will provide you with a machine part. For example a cylinder filled with oil. They may not have anything though, so it's just one possible place to get parts for the area quest.
  • The bar to the south of the peddlar only sells drinks for crystite credits and offers gambling
    • You can gamble crystite credits!!! This is dangerous
    • The odds are roughly 50/50 as far as I can tell. I only gambled around 25 times so I suspect there may be a slight bias towards the house, but I came out ahead.
    • The maximum bet size is 1000 crystite credits.
  • To the south of the entrance is a weird mechanical room. The golem there is another 32k monster that I was able to solo.
    • It drops a crystite boulder
  • In the alcove room you can push a button and it will produce a new golem.
    • Sometimes that golem is an aggressive "disoriented stone golem" that is aggressive
    • I was able to summon about 6 golems this way before it ran out
    • The golems don't drop crystite. Not sure what the benifit is of summoning them vs. giving you more monsters to kill for EXP.
  • The grim woman (Locusta) controlling all the golems is super tough.
    • She destroyed my Riftwalker and water entities without breaking a sweat
    • I've been told she requires a large newbie party to take down and has two "boss phases".
      • When she reaches 30% health she will summon additional reinforcements.
    • On the plus side, I've also been told that if you manage to kill her, she drops around 10k crystite
  • If you instead go south you will run into a dwarven engineer cursing as their drill broke down and is stuck in the wall
    • If you ask them about the drill they say they need some spare parts
    • If you ask them about list, they say they need three things. These three parts vary per player. Below is the tasks I was given, but your parts will likely be different.
      • A cylinder filed with oil
        • I gained this by giving the peddlar food
      • A thick stone pin
        • The trader on the first level sold this to me for 50 crystite credits
      • A round thing with balls in it
        • I found this by searching trash in the abandoned food store
    • Other things may be found in the following locations:
      • You can "salvage <item>" from a broken drill in the troll illegal mining caves (to the east on the second level)
      • The scavenger in the underground town to the west will drop a flexible ring
    • When you give all the items to the engineer, they will have you "drive drill" where it will promptly break. But you'll get credited for the area quest, get some money, and a bunch of crystite!
    • Here is the text from completing it:
      • Engineer exclaims 'That's it, all the parts, good job!'
      • Engineer quickly hammers the piece into the broken drill. *BANG BANG BANG* goes the hammer. Satisfied with the results, he then proceeds to kick the drill one more time, and as if struck by magic, the drill purrs into action. The noise is magnificent.
      • Congratulations! You have just completed It's a drill!
      • You receive 7109 gold as a reward for completing the quest.
      • Engineer says 'Now that the drill is fixed, would you mind doing the honours of testdriving it a bit? Just 'operate drill', it is easy to use.'
      • You hop on and start operating the drill. The noise is awesome! The drill digs itself deeper into the ground, spewing pieces of crystite around. Suddenly you notice the smell of something burning, and then the drill starts to spew smoke.
      • You hop off the drill.
      • Engineer exclaims 'DAMN IT! IT BROKE AGAIN! GNNN!'
      • The engineer starts ripping his beard in frustration. Better collect the crystite and leave him be.
  • Heading east from the level entrance you come up on a barricade
    • "climb barricade" to go up
    • "search ceiling" to find a entrance
    • "squeeze through" to go to another room
  • There is a large otyugh that blocks your progress. It drops a crystite boulder when you kill it.
  • Next up you stumble on an illegal mining facility
    • A broken drill allows you to scavenge parts from it.
    • I was told this is sometimes the location of the third part for the area quest, but that it is not always here.
    • I'm not sure of where the other locations may be.
Third Level of the Mine:
  • To the east is a semi-maze of green mist.
    • I later found out after I made the map above that the green mist maze changes every boot. So that map is just an example of what it might look like.
    • At the end of it is a spider looking like a boulder. It is an 8k monster and drops a crystite boulder
  • Continuing to the east, you hit a dead end. But you can "search walls" to find a crystite slab.
  • In the bloody tunnel (to the west of the level entrance) you can "search crack" to reveal a secret passage to the west.
    • This is more of a shortcut vs. a secret. It will let you bypass a bunch of aggressive monsters.
    • On the other side of this shortcut, you can "search holes" to open it if it closes.
  • Continuing on, you find yourself in a very tough fight with two aggressive monsters and a *VERY TOUGH* humanoid who will turn aggressive if you use offensive skills or spells.
    • I may have to level up a bit more before I continue attacking these monsters.
