Open Questions:
- I'm still exploring the Von Huber mansion for the level quest.
- Big question: Is there anyway to interact with Clark without killing him?
- Also what is up with the ghosts Clark sees? I believe this is Napoleon von Huber based on the equipment monsters listed for this area. But need to verify this.
- The fountain with the three figures seems suspicious
- How do you free the von Huber from the hedge maze?
Map:
Notes:
Entrance:
- Going in you have a choice. To the north is the Von Heber mansion which is for people level 50+. To the west is Hugoville for newbies.
Hugoville:
- Immediately after getting into Hugoville you are confronted by two annoying gang members.
- While it is tempting to kill them, they attack as a pair and are tougher than typical newbie creatures.
- In the old grocery store, despite the grocer saying they have nothing to buy, you can purchase hugobars, hugosticks, and hugonuts from the food dispenser
- There is a snake oil salesman who is selling snake oil and love potions for 1k gold each
- Their real name is Count Xzwyski
- They do not drop any of their wares if you kill them
- In the sheriff's office you can "look at poster" to see the advert for the level quest
- To get the reward, once you have Billy Bob Jack's sword type "show sword to sheriff"
- In the mayor's office, if you "dig firepit" you will find a pair of studded leather gauntlets.
- They only sell for 15 gold fyi.
- Rusty Jack's Iron works will buy armor, weapons, and items from you so you don't have to haul them back to town.
- He won't buy expensive items though like Utah Johnny's spiked knee guards
- In One Stump Tommy's bar Utah Johnny is drinking
- He drops a sword of bashing, spiked knee guards, and a big ugly grey key. The key unlocks the door to the secret lair
- If you attack him, the other gang members won't do anything, which makes this fight more doable.
- The spiked knee guards he drops are work around 2k gold!
- In the dirty warehouse "push boxes" to uncover the way to Billy Bob Jack's secret lair.
- Note: The door may be locked if nobody else has been this way before. If so, unlock it with the key you got from Utah Johnny
- Kill Billy Bob Jack and return his sword to the sheriff by using the command "show sword to sheriff"
- Note: You need to actually kill Billy Bob Jack. If you pick up the sword from someone else killing them, the sheriff will not accept it.
- Billy Bob Jack is tough since he casts flaming arrow to damage you, and can heal himself as well. So you need to tank and do a lot of damage quickly.
- He drops a box that is jammed shut so you need to "force box"
- The box has a few gold coins in it. Nothing exciting.
- Here is the text for completing the quest:
- Congratulations! You have just completed Manhunt!
- You receive 1464 gold as a reward for completing the quest.
- You show the sword of the vanquished Billy Bob Jack to the sheriff and he congratulates you on a job well done.
- Then, the sheriff gives you your reward, level quest 18.
- In Annie's lonesome coffee shop Annie sits drinking coffee
- She says if only she had someone to love she could tell them all sorts of secrets. Hmm. I seem to remember the snake oil salesman selling love potions
- Giving Annie the potion didn't do anything.
- Drinking the potion didn't do anything either.
- If you "pour potion into cup" she will tell you about the leather gauntlets she buried in the fireplace.
- It is Annie's favorite coffee cup. It also looks like you could pour something into annie's cup and she would never notice.
- You discreetly pour the love potion into Annie's drink. She sips her drink unknowingly and then whispers in your ear: I buried my dead fiance's favorite possession, his leather gauntlets, in the fire pit in town hall so that no one would find them.
- Ahh, I feel sorry for Annie. No wonder she is sad.
- Wait, was Annie's fiancé the Mayor's dead son? Did the Mayor have a son?
- At the lake, the fisherman are asking what happened to the guy who caught all the fish
- They say that Hugo the fishkiller drowned south by the thistles
- In the lake, if you "search bottom" you will find a rusty breastplate that belonged to Hugo
- It sells for 1540 gold at Rusty Jack's
- In the wolf den/small cave, if you "move hay" you will find a pair of chewed up old boots
- They sell for 167 gold at Rusty Jack's
Von Huber Mansion:
- After entering Hugoville, head north to enter the Von Huber mansion.
- To enter the mansion "use knocker".
- You can also "pick flowers" in this room if you are doing the level quest.
- Inside the mansion, if you go right, you will find the servant's quarters. In the backroom there is a servant.
- If you "cheer up girl" she will thank you, and say what she really wants is a bouquet of flowers.
- If you give her the flowers you picked from the entrance to the mansion, she'll tell you a secret: Priscilla von Huber is having an affair with the gardener!
- The servant girl recommends you "ask gardener about priscilla"
- If you go to the left from the vestibule, you'll hit the gardener's workroom. Warning: After that is the kennels.
- There are several aggressive dogs that will ambush you that wander the kennels and the lawn around the mansion.
- If you can turn invisible they will not see you.
- If you are doing the level quest, you can "knock on wall" three times here to have Pricilla come out.
- Priscilla is horrified to be caught and gives you a diamond necklace to keep quiet.
- If you continue around the yard, you'll find the gardener
- If you "ask the gardener about pricilla" he'll tell you a lewd story and then say to "knock on the wall" three times in the tool room to open up a secret door into Pricilla's room.
- In the yard, there is a hedge maze you can enter
- This is a standard "non-Euclidian" Batmud maze. It doesn't map to the real world
- The maze changes every boot. You want to look for the room that says "the entire maze is still right now" then go south.
- This will take you to a room with Herman von Huber trapped in it.
- Herman is also a literal monster (multiple eyes, scales, etc).
- I couldn't figure out how to free Herman, so ended up killing him (13k monster, tough but doable by level 48 riftwalker/mage).
- Herman drops the von Huber seal ring.
- North and to the west is Papa von Huber's room
- On the fireplace is a note written by Papa that asks Clark to retrieve his history book
- To the east of Papa von Huber is the library
- A statue of his wife is in the middle of the library.
- The statue has a few nicks around its neck where it is missing a necklace.
- If you already got the necklace from Pricilla then you can "put necklace on statue"
- The ghost of the mother of the von Huber's appears and tells you that Clark von Huber killed her in a drunken rage. She wants revenge.
- She says "open secret door behind dresser" in his room to confront him
- If you look at the books you'll notice a huge history book
- You can't take the history book since it is attached to something
- If you "pull history book" it will open a secret door!!!
- Through the secret door is Melvin's cell
- It turns out Cruella von Huber has been locking people up after her mother died.
- Melvin says his brother, Herman, was locked in an enchanted hedge by Cruella
- On the floor of the cell is a blueprint of a machine that turns mowgles into gold.
- This may be relevant to the level quest...
- Melvin wants to kill Cruella, but he can't get into her secret room.
- Only Otto can get into the room, but he won't help you until you give him the ring with the family seal on it.
- In Clark's bedroom if you "open secret door behind dresser" you will reveal a secret passage to the basement.
- In the basement there are four statues at the end of the wall.
- You can "move creature" to have the statue of that creature come alive. Aka "move goat"
- One of the creatures (random) will come alive and open the locked door to the north
- The locked door seems to stay open for about an hour before it resets
- The other three creatures will come alive and attack you
- They are pretty tough. Also WARNING: They will chase you if you run away.
- You can sneak past the aggressive creatures if you have invisability cast on you. The problem is if you want to kill Clark, you may need to retreat in which case these creatures will attack you. So it's better to just kill them.
- They also cast area attacks like hailstorm. Which can be a problem if you are in the backrow with a highbie tank helping you out.
- The door leads to Clark's throne room
- Clark claims the ghost of his great grandfather is speaking to him.
- While this would be hilarious if the ghost was of Hugo von Fishkiller who you find his equipment at the bottom of the lake in Hugoville, this probably refers to Napoleon von Huber. The banshee of Napoleon is a big equipment monster in this area.
- As a test: Giving Clark the Hugo's breastplate doesn't do anything.
- I also wandered around the mansion with "see invisible" on and did not find any ghosts.
- You need to kill Clark to get the self-destruct punch card from him.
- Clark also drops a golden key which opens up the doors to the crypts.
- To get access to the machine you need to kill Herman, and give the von Huber signet ring to Otto
- Otto von Huber is sitting in the kitchen
- If you give him the von Huber signet ring obtained from Herman, he will tell you to "pull on chandelier" in Cruella's room to open a secret door.
- In Cruella's bedroom you can "pull on chandelier" to open a secret door
- Note: This will not work until Otto von Huber tells you about it. So you can't skip that step.
- Down in the basement behind the room you will encounter Jim Bob and Joe Bob who will block your progress.
- You can totally sneak by them if you are invisible!
- In the next room is the mowgles making machine along with Cruella von Huber
- If the machine is broken, then that means someone already completed the quest this boot. You'll need to come back another day to do the level quest.
- Cruella isn't much help as she keeps threatening you about the family demon.
- You need to kill Cruella to complete the LQ, (she will block you from inserting the punch card)
- When you kill Cruella she will drop a bloody note that says that Clark has the punchcard to destroy the machine
- Put the punch-card in the machine to complete the level quest. The syntax is "insert card".
- Level quest reward text:
- Congratulations! You have just completed Machine!
- You receive 43614 gold as a reward for completing the quest.
- You insert the activator card.
- The machine chugs and churns for a moment, then explodes in a burst of steam. When the steam clears, it looks as if the machine has melted.
- You have done well, and you will not go unrewarded or unrecognized. For your efforts above and beyond the call of mudding, the financial interests of BatMud award you level quest 50.
- If you go into the crypts (the key to unlock the doors is dropped by Clark), you can go the back way into Cruella's room. This will avoid the blocking Jim and Joe Bob, and you don't need to kill Herman to unlock the "pull chandelier" method to get into her room.
- In the crypts there is a coffin. If you "open coffin" it will span a very powerful and very aggressive Ghost of Napoleon von Huber. Be prepared for a serious fight then.
