Newbie Taskmaster

Continent: Laenor

Description:
  • Home of LQ26. No real reason to visit here unless you are doing the level quest.
  • The first three tasks are hunt and return type tasks in mini-areas. The last two tasks are built on famous logic puzzles.
  • The quest description mentions needing a high charisma to complete one of the tasks but I didn't really notice where that check would occur. I completed it with a CHA of 98.
Quests:

Equipment:
  • None that I know of.
Open Questions:
  • Do the tasks save across reboot?
    • I did not want to test this one. I'd recommend doing them all in one go.
  • In the farmer task there seems to be some interesting parts to the south of it. Can you explore that farther, or is it just some leftover bits to give the area some "flair"?

Map of the Five Areas for the Newbie Taskmaster

Notes:

Overview:
  • You can use the command "task" to check for available tasks
  • You can use the command "start <taskname>" to begin a task
  • You can use the command "info <taskname>" to get a description of the task
  • Once you start a task, you will be transported to the hall of portals. Say your name to start the quest.
  • If you want to quit, type "giveup"
  • Once you complete a task, give the ticket you receive to Jarear and they will give you some mithril coins.
  • Here is the text when you complete all five tasks:
    • Jarear exclaims 'Congratulations, Kikisisu!'
    • You have been awarded 5 mithril coins.
    • Congratulations! You have just completed Jarear's assignments!
    • You receive 3824 gold as a reward for completing the quest.
Task 1 (Farmer):
  • The goal is to help the farmer
  • If you go east, north, west you will find the farmer in the farmhouse. He is sobbing miserably
    • If you "ask farmer about help" he says that he has lost his cow and wants it back
    • He gives you a cowbell to help lead the cow back.
  • You can type "cowbell help" to figure out how to use the cowbell
    • Note, you can only lure the cow. I was going to see if I could bring the mouse to the cat...
  • Go to the east and the cow is in the tall grass. "lure cow" and bring it back to the farmer
  • Type "return" to return the cow. This will complete the task!
Task 2 (Bridge):
  • The goal is to help Jalure repair the bridge
  • You quickly find Jalure
    • If you "ask Jalure about help" he says he needs some wood to repair the bridge
    • "tell Jalure accept" to actually accept the quest
  • If you go north to the town you will encounter a bar
    • If you go into the back room and "ask Galina about dance" you will get some X rated content...
  • Go to the blacksmith and ask them about an axe.
    • It takes about a minute for them to make the axe.
  • Go to the small alcove in the tress where a young tree is
    • Wield the axe
    • "chop tree"
  • Grab the wood, and go back and give it to Jalure. This will complete the task.
Task 3 (Badger):
  • The goal is to help protect the Badger's home from snakes
  • Talking to the badger, if you ask them if they need help, they reply they need branches and wire to build a fence
    • If you ask the badger about mushrooms, they say the snakes stole them and that we need to kill the snakes and bring the mushrooms back
  • There are two pieces of branches you can find on the ground southeast and southwest of the badger.
  • To the northeast of the badger if you "search leaves" you will find the wire.
  • Kill the three snakes around the badger
  • In the areas with water, "search mold" to find the three mushrooms
  • Give everything to the badger and you will complete the quest.
Task 4 (Boat):
  • You need to get a wolf, a goat, and a cabbage across the river.
    • This is a super famous logic puzzle and is taught in most computer science classes to show how functional programming languages can work.
    • Obligatory XKCD comic reference.
  • Here is the solution
    • ask goat about follow; boat; row; shore; ask goat about stay
    • boat; row; shore
    • ask wolf about follow; boat; row; shore; ask wolf about stay
    • ask goat about follow; boat; row; shore; ask goat about stay
    • ask cabbage about follow; boat; row; shore; ask cabbage about stay
    • boat; row; shore
    • ask goat about follow; boat; row; shore; ask goat about stay
  • Once everyone is safely across, you will have completed the task
Task 5 (Knights):
  • This is the classic logic puzzle where one knight always tells the truth, one knight always lies, and one knight can tell the truth or lie. You need to figure out which is the honest one.
  • I'll be up front, I don't think this one is 100% solvable given the rules. I can help you narrow it down to have a 50% chance of passing, but that's it.
  • You can only ask one question of each knight. The question can be one of the two following options
    • ask knight about himself
    • ask knight about <color> which is one of the other two knights
  • I asked white and grey knights about the black knight. They both said the black knight was the knight of death
    • This meant the black knight must be either the knight of death or the knight of life. It can not be the knight of Abyss
  • Therefore asking the knight about themselves wouldn't help since they would always reply the knight of life (or possibly Abyss). It doesn't tell me anything new unless the death knight makes a mistake
  • I asked the black knight about the white knight, and they said they were the knight of death
    • This didn't really tell me anything new. Any of the knights would have said that. I'm annoyed that I wasted my guess but I was hoping it would tell me a bit about the other two.
  • I picked the black knight since that's what I would suspect the coder of this challenge to do to "spice things up a bit". That was successful.
    • Hack the wiz, not the challenge ;p
Kill Tracker:
  • An upset snake is hissing at you
    • 1700 exp
