The Village of Stouby
Continent: Laenor
Level Limit:

Notes:Kill Tracker:
Level Limit:
- Limited to players under level 50
- Enforced by a blocking monster
Description:
Quests:- This is one of my favorite areas.
- You'll likely only come here to do the level quest. But the level quest is very well written
- There's almost always multiple ways to solve a problem. This area really rewards searching around and thinking outside the box.
- There are a number of monsters to kill if you are higher level than the LQ limit. You can kill some of the creatures as a level 32 player but it may be hard.
- LQ 32: Wicked Witch
- You can totally solo this quest. There are tough monsters, but there are ways to avoid having to fight them.
Equipment:
- Starmetal weapon
- Can be enhanced as a reward for the levelquest
- Sells for good money and is an "okay(ish)" weapon.
- It's fun to explore and learn how to create this weapon, but the gauntlets are a better reward
- A pair of carnelian gauntlests
- One potential reward for completing the levelquest
- Provides either (+4 STR, +6% Attack) or (+4 INT, +6% Cast Generic)
- "Clap hands" to switch between the melee and magic modes
- This is one of the best hand items until you get into the very top tier gear. You really should do the level quest, if only to get this reward.
General Comment: There are many different ways to solve the level quest. I'm going to try to highlight a few of them here in case you get stuck, but I highly encourage you to first attempt this quest on your own. I had a ton of fun doing it, and I don't want to deny you that same experience.
Entrance (Quest Intro, and one option to help obtain the cloak):
- There is a paladin near the entrance that will block high level players from entering the village.
- If you 'ask paladin about rules' he says that all spellcasting is prohibited by the inquisition.
- If you 'ask paladin about witch', he says they caught the witch but her familiar got away.
- If you 'ask paladin about familiar' he says there is a reward for its head. He also recommends asking the familiar about extortion....
- If you 'ask paladin about troublemakers' he says that only players under level 50 are allowed. Doing a "consider" on him and he looks like he could cause some damage...
- Just south of the paladin, you will hear a "meowing"
- If you look at underbrush it says you can find a path southwest
- After that, the "meowing" says it is coming from the southwest
- Even through that exit doesn't print, you can go southwest from here
- The familiar (Sasize the cat) is in the hidden part of the forest to the SW
- She asks you to help her
- "ask cat about story" to hear what is going on
- "ask cat about ideas" to hear about what to do
- Step 1: Go to the inn
- Step 2: Sneak past the guards
- Step 3: Go into the head inquisitor's room and steal his robes
- Step 4: Impersonate the inquisitor and go to the jail to talk to the witch
- If you "ask cat about extortion" she says just save her mistress but if the witch finds out you killed the cat there will be hell to pay.
- (Potential Option): You can kill the cat and give its head to the paladin. The paladin will then give you a note that will let you speak to the Inquisitor for a reward. The cat tells you as you are killing it though the witch will be angry. Not sure if this has an impact when you complete the LQ. There are other ways you can sneak into the inquisitors room.
- Continuing to the village you encounter an annoying bird
- It will fly away if you try to attack it
- You can "throw pebble at bird" to keep it from flying away and then attack it.
Entrance (Stores, a shadowy shape-changer, and "components" for a potion):
- In the village you see an unlit pyre, a paladin, and a bunch of kids
- Asking the paladin about the pyre, he says they are waiting for it to dry from the rain
- You can buy rotten fruit in the grocery store, but I haven't found a use for it at the pyre.
- The little girl asks about candy.
- (Potential Option): If you give her candy she will follow you to a different room to ask for more.
- (Potential Option): You can "trip boy" to steal the ball from them.
- If you go into another room with the ball, the boy will follow you to ask for it back.
- For the level quest, once you have the jar from the witch's hut, lure one of the kids south from the bonfire. Once they are alone, kill them, and then "place jar on corpse" to steal their liver
- I wish I could find a better (kinder) way to complete this part of the quest.
- Also, be careful as there is a wandering paladin that may show up in this room. If they see you murdering children they will turn aggressive and probably kill you.
- In the NE house there is a senile old man. He will answer questions about the witch, but they aren't helpful answers
- In the NW house there is an old woman who will answer questions
- If you ask her about the witch, she says the witch's mother was even more evil
- Asking her about the mother, the woman says they used to have a sulphur mine in the village, but the mother cast a hex on it and now it is haunted.
- As a warning, both of the people in the houses may flee into the central square if you attack them. Then when you chase them, the paladin gets angry, and you have a bad day. .
- If you go west from the town square you find a paladin blocking the path to the witch's hut.
- If you ask him about the path, he says the head inquisitor told him to block it.
- They will let you pass if you are wearing the inqusitor's robe (which you can get later)
- There is a candy store in town
- You can buy candy to give to the little girl if you want
- There is a smith in town
- Spoiler: After you find the meteor, you can come to the smith and "ask about meteor". The smith will go off to find it. It will take several minutes for them to travel from the smithy to the meteor location.
- Once in the meteor hole, the smith will dig some of it out and hit it with his hammer. (this takes a while fyi) and then head back to his smithy.
- He will then offer to make you a weapon of your choice.
- The weapon is worth around 3k gold if you decide to sell it back
- There is a grocery store in town.
- It sells rotten fruit, which is mentioned in the room description...Morley says the rotten fruit is for throwing at the witch. I have not dared to throw the fruit at the witch
- The grocery also sells food which is helpful if you need something to put sleeping powder into.
- There is a general store in town.
- The general store sells torches and matches. The torches can be used on the beehive.
- If you don't have a torch and are doing the LQ, I'd recommend buying a torch here.
- More importantly, if you 'ask clement about corpse' he reveals he is a doppelganger and asks you to help him.
- Note, this won't work until you have found the corpse and looked at it, (verified this when testing on a second day). T
- he corpse can be found in the farmstead section.
- "Ask Clement about help" and he reveals that he wants to kill the inquisitor with a special dagger
- If you "ask clement about supplies" he adds a dagger and sleeping poison to his inventory that you can buy. He's a *very* good shopkeeper...
- The poison recommends mixing it with some food...
- Important note: You don't need to kill the inquisitor to do the quest, so you don't need to buy this equipment. There is a nice monetary reward though!
Farmstead (Cats, Bees, and Meteors):
- If you go east from the town square there is a farmer.
- If you "ask farmer about rain" he tells you to ask his neighbor about the ball lightening.
- If you go into the farmer's house there is a black cat upstairs
- (Potential Option): If you "grab cat tail" you'll kill the cat
- You also get a black cat's head.....
- If you give the head to the paladin at the entrance, he accepts it and tells you to get your reward from the head inquisitor.
- In the storehouse, if you "search tools" you will find a steel scythe
- Also in the storehouse, you can "move crates" to open a path to the cellar
- If you look at sacks in cellar, you will discover a corpse
- Next "look at corpse". You can't skip this step if you want to help/confront the dopleganger.
- The corpse is of the shopkeeper clement. Maybe you should ask the person in the store about this corpse? See the village section for more on this part of the quest.
- If you go into the cowhouse the cows look sick
- They are having some sort of intestinal distress. I wonder if it has to do with the murky water in the ditch... There is a sulfur mine...
- Nope, when you talk to the witch later, she says she cursed the cows...
- If you look at trees, you see death cap mushrooms..... That could also be a problem
- I haven't figured out of these mushrooms play a potential role in some of the quests or if they are just flavor text.
- Talking to the neighbor farmer, he mentions the ball lightning did a ton of damage to the barley field.
- Another farmer said the lightning caused a hole in his barley field
- There is a tough and aggressive bear at the bottom of the hole in the field, but it gives you time to escape (you have 5-10 seconds before it agros)
- (Potential Option): If you later on get some sleeping poison from the shopkeeper (after getting the quest to kill the inquisitor), you can mix it with a cheese steak purchased from the grocer.
- You can then "give cheese steak to bear" to get the bear to go away and fall asleep.
- Once you do this, "search rubble" to find the meteor. Now you need to find someone interested in it! See the village section of this guide to continue along this path in the quest.
- There is a beehive by one of the farmhouses.
- Looking at it recommends smoking the bees out.
- It strongly advises against kicking the beehive.
- If you have a torch you can "smoke beehive with torch" to scare away the bees.
- You can then "extract wax" which is needed to obtain mandrake later. See the Witch's hut section of this guide to continue this part of the quest.
- The Inn is near the end of the town
- Going upstairs, the paladin blocks access to the inquisitor room. He asks for food, but doesn't specify what type of food. He also mentions a plan they used to catch the witch
- (Potential Option): If you have exposed the doppleganger, you can buy sleeping poison from them, and bread from the baker.
- "mix poison with food"
- "Give bread to paladin"
- This will cause the paladin to fall asleep for a couple of minutes. This is the safest option to collect the inquisitor's robe.
- (Potential Option): Alternatively, if you turned in the cat's head as a reward, you can 'ask guard about reward' and the guard will leave into the west room to get you your reward.
- You can then go into the inquisitor's room briefly.
- Note: If you take too long, the guard will check in with the inquisitor and if they see you in the room, attack you. The plus about this option is it is "free"
- If you ask 'guard about reward' when you come back, they will give you some gold coins.
- Regardless of how you get into the the inquisitors room:
- If you "search drawer" you can find a pouch containing gold coins
- "open closet"
- If you "search closet" you can get a robe.
- You can "wear robe" to put on the disguise.
- (Potential Option): If you are partnering with the doppelganger and purchased the dagger from them:
- I then used "stab inquisitor" which killed them.
- They left behind a pair of polka-dot shorts.
- Going back to Clement (the fake shopkeeper), you can "ask clement about reward". They will give you some mithril coins! Nice!
Witch's Hut (Plants and Pots):
- Once you have the robes from the inquisitor's closet and you are wearing them, the guard to the witch's hut will let you pass.
- A sign on the door of the hut warns you of "dangerous magical items". Sounds fun!
- Search items in the hut for a lever. I've found the location of the lever changes between Batmud reboots. So one time you may need to "search desk", and another time you may need to "search oven"
- Once you find the lever, it will open a trapdoor down.
- You can also "step spider". Not sure if that does anything beneficial.
- In the basement there is a book and a cauldron
- If you open the book (and are not evil) it will summon a guardian spirit which will attack you. Don't worry though as the spirit is pretty easy to kill.
- Keep turning pages until it gives you the magic phrase to say to harvest the mandrake plant. This phrase changes per boot.
- While here "take jar" to obtain a liver later.
- Warning: If you drink from the cauldron, you'll turn into a frog.
- I was curious so I ignored all the warnings and tried it out...
- Next continue out the back to the yard
- Behind the witch's hut there is a corpse hanging in the trees of a butchered deer missing its horns
- If you look at the herbs in this room, you see there are mandrake root. This is what you need to harvest
- I tried to "pull root" but it said it was not ripe enough to pull out of the ground
- Saying [[magic words]] allows you to pull the plant, but it hurt me with a loud sound. You need some sort of ear protection.
- If you got the wax from the bees nest earlier, you can "stuff wax in ears". Now you can pull the mandrake.
- This mandrake is needed for the level quest!
Sulphur Mines (Where there is Sulphur):
- Going south, past the village, there is an inquisitor camp
- (Potential Option): Going into the camp, there is a shopkeeper. From them buy the vial (holy).
- This will allow you to get past the undead in the mines without having to fight them
- Next, go south into the mines.
- There will be a ghost of a woman that will block access to the mines
- If you have the holy vial "throw at undead" to kill the ghost.
- Continue into the mines. At the dead-end, "scratch walls" to collect sulpher for the level quest.
Finishing the Quest:
- Go visit the witch in the town jail. To do this you need to be wearing the stolen inquisitor robes.
- lf you "ask witch about help" she says it would help to have a backup plan, and then tells you to ask her about instructions.
- The witch asks for fresh mandrake root, a liver from a kid, and sulphur from the mine.
- I guess she isn't a good witch....
- Note, you can't use skills in the cell, so you can't kill the witch
- Go to the witch and give her the sulphur, jar, and mandrake
- She will use this to escape and you just completed the level quest!!!
- Witch kicks the shackles off and loosens up her arms and legs.
- Witch says 'Took you long enough. Now, only thing left before I leave is your reward.'
- Congratulations! You have just completed Wicked witch!
- You receive 8142 gold as a reward for completing the quest.
- Don't forget to ask about reward! She might have something for you
- The witch will then offer you a reward
- She can enchant a starmetal weapon. This is the weapon that the smith will create for you from the fallen meteor found in the hole with the bear.
- If you enchant your weapon, it will now sell for around 8k gold instead of 3k gold.
- If instead you "ask witch about trinket" option and she she will give you an amazing set of gauntlets. They also sell for 10k so if you are doing this quest a second time, this is still the better option to choose.
- Congratulations. You just completed the Level Quest!
