Riftwalker Tasks
Overview:
The Riftwalker guild has a large number of tasks/quests that will significantly improve the effectiveness of you and your entities. The challenge is all of these tasks are **VERY** challenging to accomplish. You will need friends, and you will need to be goal oriented. This guide will hopefully make that process a little bit easier.
Task Tiers:
The tasks are broken down into four tiers. You need to complete all of the tasks on the previous tier before you start on the next one. For example, you might be tempted to go straight to the Tier 3 task of to killing a magic cloud so that your offensive spells won't break entity control. But you won't be able to create the special rift spark from that monster until you've completed all Tier 1 and Tier 2 tasks. At a high level, here's what the various Tiers give you:
Tier 1:
- Enhanced Fire and Air elementals (better ability to cast non-riftwalker spells)
- The ability to summon a magic entity
- Better information about your entities
- Better entity healing
- +Intelligence boost
Tier 2:
- Enhanced Water and Earth and Magic elementals (better ability to cast non-riftwalker spells)
- Better entity healing
- + Spell point regeneration
- Your Riftwalker tasks/quests save over reincarnations (VERY IMPORTANT!)
Tier 3:
- All non-Riftwalker spells will no longer break control of any of your entities (VERY IMPORTANT!)
- Critical hits do less damage to your entities (VERY IMPORTANT!)
- Various buffs last longer
- + Intelligence Boost
Tier 4:
- End game content. I think the rewards are special Riftwalker specific weapons
Riftwalker Tier 1 Task Guide:
Burn them all
- Description: Show me your strength and power! Using your fire entity, you and you alone must kill 30 monsters with an exp worth of 10000 or more.
- Reward: You can now cast any offensive spell before combat begins without disrupting control over your fire entity.
- Priority:
- This isn't important until you start leveling up in a non-riftwalker guild. So you probably don't need to get serious about this task until level 30(ish)
- That being said, you'll start working on this organically as you solo stuff while leveling.
- Guide/Notes:
- You can be in a party (to make it easier to track your kills), but you can not have any other players in your party for a kill to count.
- There appears to be some backend coding designation if a creature counts for this. For example, on double EXP events killing a previously 5k monster for 10k doesn't work. Also there are some areas (such as Secladin) where killing 20k monsters on your own still doesn't count for some reason.
- I've also found this to glitch on occasion. Aka monsters that counted suddenly don't count or vice versa. That being said, I've been able to confirm that I have been about to kill the same monster multiple times and get credit for the kills more than once.
- Text when you complete it:
- Congratulations! You have just completed 'Burn them all'
- You can now cast any offensive spell before combat begins without disrupting control over your fire entity
- Good places to get kills:
- Beastlands final boss (+1)
- Rainbow cloak area (+4)
- Iron Mines (+4ish)
- Dark Castle (+2)
- The priest and the mage are fairly easy kills to make
- Village of Stouby (+4ish)
- Farmers are pretty easy creatures to rack up kills on
- This is where I eventually just grinded out finishing this quest as a level 27 Riftwalker
Blow them down
- Description: Show me your strength and power! Using your air entity, you and you alone must kill 25 monsters with an exp worth of 12000 or more.
- Reward: Air entity control will now break when an offensive spell hits, not when you begin to cast.
- Priority:
- Medium, you can do this while leveling your air elemental
- This reward is less useful than the one for the fire entity. The fire entity's one allows you to initiate attacks without losing control. With this one, you'll lose control, but not until your spell hits
- The nice thing about this reward is it lets you use non-Riftwalker spells as a "closer" to finish off monsters. Still, it's pretty situational.
- Guides/Notes:
- Very similar to the fire elemental "burn them all" task. Many of the same monsters apply, it's just with the increased EXP worth it removes many of the "easier" ones.
- Text when you complete it:
- Congratulations! You have just completed 'Blow them down'
- Air entity control will now break when an offensive spell hits, not when you begin to cast.
- Good places to get kills:
- I'll admit, I got most of my kills from the Village of Stouby. The farmers were a consistent source of 12k kills, and the farmer wives would also sometimes count.

Brave the lance
- Description: To further my research, I require a rift spark created from the death of A mounted cavalier is guarding the keep.
- Reward: The 'stats' command is now available to your entities.
- Priority:
- For you personally, Low. It's not going to impact your gameplay in any real way.
- For Batmud players as a whole, High. We always need more information about what impacts your entities and how they grow. Get this early, record your entity's progress, and share it!
- Guides/Notes:
- This is a 6k monster in the drawbridge area. You should be able to solo it!
- Just be careful. There are other wandering guards that will turn aggressive if a fight is going on. So they can bumble in and cause you to have a bad day.
- I'd recommend doing this as soon as possible.
- Once you have the stats command, keep track of your entities and report back, either in comments to posts on this blog, or by updating the batwiki!
- Killing the monster gives you a blindingly bright rift spark
- Text when you complete it:
- You give a blindingly bright rift spark to Shaman.

Ride the rift
- Description: Show me you are a competent Riftwalker by using 'create rift' to travel to the sphere (and back again) from the following location: This is where the castle's magic user does his observations of the sky. The view to the surrounding countryside is breath taking. Telescopes and other tools are placed on the walls. A ladder leads down through a trapdoor.
- Reward: You feel more intelligent. This gives +1 INT
- Priority:
- High. This is an exploration task, and it rewards you with enhanced stats. Also, it isn't that tough. I was able to solo it as a level 28 player.
- Guides/Notes:
- This is also in the drawbridge are
- You get the key to get to this area from a mischievous imp. Go inside the keep, take the inner-western tower all the way up, and go along the roof to find the imp.
- The actual tower you want is the north eastern tower in the courtyard that a golem blocks. Go all the way up it to find the location. You need the key to unlock a door there.
- There is an aggressive mage who is a 70k monster that is near the top. I'd recommend casting invisibility before going up past the locked door. You can also run by them, but invisibility is better.
- Once in the room described above, "cast create rift at sphere". Then leave the training location, going "out". When you do this you should get the following message
- Congratulations! You have just completed 'Ride the rift'
- You feel more intelligent.

Take care of a pest
- Description: First of all, you need to have 200 entity levels in total. Then you will get the following task: To further my research, I require a rift spark created from the death of The massive king rock-digger, sitting quietly.
- Reward: You now have the power to summon a magic entity.
- Priority:
- High, but you likely won't be able to do this until your character gets around 40 million EXP worth. 200 entity levels is a lot!
- Basically, once you reach the entity level threshold, you should do this quest ASAP
- Guides/Notes:
- The "easiest" way to do this is to get each of your 4 entities to around level 50(ish).
- You may want to focus on having your fire/air elementals higher since they require less EXP to advance.
- This is going to require some prioritization on your part. You can't just have one favorite entity and rank them all the way up.
- The advantage of trying to complete this requirement though is that having a high number of entity levels will also help many of your other Riftwalker spells.
- The king rock-digger is in the mines of the Newbie mountain. It is super easy to kill, even for a newbie player. That part of the task is trivial. Once you have the entity levels, just go ahead and solo that.

Clever hands
- Description: To further my research, I require a rift spark created from the death of a mad scientist.
- Reward: The 'heft' command is now available to your entities.
- Priority:
- Low. It'll make sure you don't use "consume weapon" on weapons your entities can't wield yet, which is helpful. But it won't really change your gameplay that much.
- The main reason to complete this task is so you can advance to the Tier 2 tasks.
- Guides/Notes:
- This is an 80k creature in Soy
Patch me up
- Description: To further my research, I require a rift spark created from the death of Father Okmef is here, looking concerned.
- Reward: Your entities will now benefit more from healing spells.
- Priority:
- I'd like to make this High. Everyone likes faster healing! But you likely won't get to it until your character is around level 60. Father Okmef is a tough monster.
- You'll likely need a party to help/carry you through this fight. So making friends early is recommended!
- Guides/Notes:
- This is a 300k monster in the Valley of the Kings
- Father Okmef casts a hard hitting area of effect attack. You might want to have a magic entity at this point to help share the damage. It'll get popped, but at least you might live.
- As some background, your rift entities have a base resistance to healing spells. This task helps remove some of that resistance. (This was confirmed by the Wizard Moss).
- To complete this task, make sure you cast spark birth on Father Okmef and have it active when you kill him.
- You'll get a a blindingly bright rift spark when Father Oknef dies
- You then need to give the spark to the riftwalker shaman.
- You may need to specify this. Aka: give a blindingly bright rift spark to shaman
- If the shaman says "You are not ready to complete that quest" this is because you are giving him the wrong sparks

Cup half full
- Description: To further my research, I require a rift spark created from the death of amazon princess Tigra is trying to rally the council
- Reward: The maximum number of rift sparks stored in your black gem increases from 10 to 20.
- Priority:
- Low: This is a nice quality of life issue since the sparks in your gem save over reboots. So it'll speed up your gameplay when you first log on as you won't need to farm sparks before doing anything major.
- Guides/Notes:
- This is a 100k creature in the Misty Forests
To arms brothers
- Description: To further my research, I require a rift spark created from the death of huge, imposing looking orc male.
- Reward: The amount of entity weapons you can store has increased.
- Priority:
- Low. It'll let you keep more sets of equipment if you want to gear your entities differently, but most people won't notice this reward.
- Guides/Notes:
- This is a 400k monster in the Misty Forests.
- If you have a high level party helping you, I'd recommend doing this task the same time you do the "Cup Half Full" task.
