Iron Mine
Continent: Laenor
Description:
Quests:- This is a good place for midbies (Level 30-60) to earn experience
- The hard part about killing monsters here is there are some very tough murder-machines (golems and named characters) wandering around which will turn aggressive if they see you in the middle of a fight.
- Area Quest: Rescue the Bunny
Equipment:
- None that I know of.
Open Questions:
- What happens when you kill the spider. Is the bunny behind it?
- What is in the key in the box by the entrance to the lookout?
- It locks/unlocks the gate to the lookout, but that seems a bit silly since that gate starts out unlocked.
- What is past the living statues in the secret passage?
General Disclaimer: Most creatures move and/or will spawn in different locations after reboot. So take placements in the map as a general guide vs. where creatures actually are.
Area Quest Disclaimer: It seems like only one person/group can complete the area quest per day. If you see a "tunnel" exit in any of the rooms, you know someone else already did the quest this boot, so you'll need to wait another day to complete it. At the very least, the quest didn't reset after a couple of hours when this happened to me.
Main North/South Passage Through the Mountain:
- There are two entrances, a northern one, and a southern one. I'll start from the northern one since that's the easiest to get to from Dortlewall
- You immediately run across Elrohir the merchant and his daughter Idrilith
- If you ask Idrilith about bunny, she will ask your help in finding them in the mines
- Going south if you ask the dwarf guard about the bunny they tell you to talk to the miners.
- Neerah the elven cartographer is super suss. They keep saying they want a carrot and that carrots are delicious
Western Branch ():
- This is to the west off the main n/s route.
- If you ask miner about rockslide they recommend talking to their boss Darrow Half-Plow
- In a side-tunnel there is a tinkerer Angus Guyver who has a giant picture of a bunny on the wall. That is suss as well...
- In the next room is a non-functional mechamagical golem.
- If you ask Angus about the golem, he says he needs some magic as a power source
- They say an electrical spell might work....
- If you ask angus about powder, he says if you help him with his golem he can give you some explosive powder to blow things up.
- Moving on, you'll meet Darrol Half-Plow (He moves between rooms FYI)
- Apparently he likes jokes and puns. He writes them down in his notebook
- He says if you bring him a nice dinner, he will teach you how to investigate rock slides
- Specifically, he'd like a bowl of Jesskho's chili
- Go to the west and you will find the non-functional golem
- IMPORTANT: Wait until all wandering monsters are out of the room before you cast spells at it, otherwise you might turn them aggressive! This will take a lot of spell casts, so periodically check the next room to see if a creature might wander into the golem room.
- Cast lightning based attacks at the golem. It takes a LOT of hits (20+) to activate it. While doing this you will see the following messages telling you how close you are to accomplishing this task.
- The inert golem twitches a bit as its body absorbs the energy
- The inert golem wobbles noticeably as its body absorbs the energy
- The inert golem is almost fully charged as its body absorbs the energy.
- The inert golem becomes fully charged as its body absorbs the energy.
- Go back to Angus and they will reward you with a bag of powder and instructions on how to use it. If you need more powder you can go back and ask them for more.
- They also give you a mithril coin (500 gold)
- To use the explosives, "ignite fuse", "drop bag" then get out of the room quickly
- If you are still in the room when it explodes (roughly 20 seconds), then you will take around 200 damage
- To get another bag of explosive, just go back to Angus and "ask angus about explosive"
- The key is to blow up a rock pile with a tunnel behind it. This tunnel (and the rock piles themselves) randomly spawns. So to avoid having to blow up every rock pile you'll need to get Darrol to train you on how to search them.
- Further NW is Jesskho the cook
- They will sell you a bowl of chili for 750 gold. Just "ask Jesskho buy chili"
- Go back to Darrol and give them the bowl of chili. They will then give you some advice over the next 10-20 seconds.
- It ends with: "As Darrol finishes his lecture, you feel as if you have learned something of use"
- This will allow you to successfully "search rockslide/cavein"
- When you unsuccessfully search a rock pile you'll get the message: "Unfortunately your search yields nothing, this is truly a dead end"
- Going further along the tunnel, you will come to Gruth the dwarven bookkeeper
- They seem to respond to questions, but I haven't figured out what to ask them.
- Back in the tunnel, two south-east from the cook is a suspicious wall. If you "push brick" it will open up a secret passage to the SE.
- Note: This isn't part of the area quest. I'm still exploring this area
Secret Passage:
- To exit the secret passage once the door closes, "push brick".
- The black lights here will drain your spell points over time. If you need to regen, head all the way back out of the secret passages to the main hallway.
- A short ways through the secret passage, two living statues will pop to life and block your progress.
Eastern Branch (Old Mine Tunnels and Eastern Mine Tunnel):
- In the old mine tunnel (take the eastern branch off the main passage and then go south) there is a suspicious pile of rocks blocking an exit. If you search it, the text recommends bringing a miner there.
- There is also a suspicious rockslide NE from that...
- Continuing on to the cave in, you can search the rocks and it says one large rock might have something under it. If you search again, you don't find anything.
- If you "move rock" you can find an ancient mine tunnel though!
- You will immediately be teleported into an ancient mine tunnel. Ok what really happens is you fall through a hole in the floor ;p
- To get back to the main tunnels "move rock" again.
- At the very bottom of the ancient mine is Farl Essipe, Vampire Slayer
- If you ask them about vampires, they say that there aren't any in these mines, just ghosts.
- The eastern mine tunnel will eventually take you to the top of the mountain in the outerworld.
- Right before you exit to the outside observatory, there is a sealed box with a key in it.
- I tried to "force box" but wasn't strong enough.
- Coming back with my wolfman shadow saber, I was able to force the box and open it. The key locks/unlocks the gate to the observatory. But since the observatory starts out unlocked, I think it has another use as well.
- I guess that could be used to turn the observatory into a murder room for player killing....
- There is a telescope that you can "peer through telescope" to see a larger view of the outerworld.
- This isn't relevant to the area quest. It's just kind of neat :)
Area Quest (Finding the Bunny:
- Rockslides can be found all around the mines. They randomly spawn so the locations marked in the map above are just examples. After getting the explosives from Angus, and learning how to search rockslides from Darrol, start searching rockslides.
- Eventually you will find a rockslide with the following message:
- You begin examining the rock-slide carefully, checking for air currents and smells, as per Darrol Half-plow's expert instructions. You are almost about to give up, when you suddenly notice a small hole .. a bunny-sized hole! And there is an air-current -- obviously something is hidden behind this mass of rocks! Now you just need to find out a way to clear this blockade ...
- Once you find the location of the proper rockslide the next step is to open it up with explosive
- WARNING: You need to do the following quickly or you will take a lot of damage
- To start off "ignite powder"
- I haven't figured out how to place the bag. Maybe drop it and run away? I just took the damage and it opened up the tunnel.
- This will open up a tunnel. Go in the tunnel and you will encounter a large spider that blocks your progress.
- This spider one shot me with a poison spray, so this is where this guide will have to end for now. I suspect once you kill the spider you will find the bunny behind it.
Kill Tracker:
- A tiny cave mole sits here
- 400 exp
- A large cave mole sniffs the air lazily
- 1200 exp
- A small cave lizard
- 2800 - 3100 exp
- A jovial dwarf miner, singing a song
- 13700 exp
- Drops a water jug
- A spirit of an ancient dwarven miner
- 28200 exp
