Rainbow Cloak (also known as Joseph's Challenge)

Description:
  • This is a very interesting and well written area focused around the Level Quest for level 27
  • This is not a good area to grind EXP. You'll likely be coming here because you are task focused. Either you are doing the LQ, you are on a quick delivery task for the DortleWall storyline, or you are trying to get a piece of equipment.
Quests:

  • LQ27: Colors
    • This is a very challenging level quest. It's almost impossible to complete on your own
    • Besides some 20-30k monsters to kill, there is a strength check where you need a player with 50+ strength to complete it.
Equipment:
  • Rainbow Cloak
    • +3 spell point regeneration (SPR)
    • Reward for completing LQ27
  • There are rumors of a +2 damage helmet obtained from the hall of sinners, but the manner to obtain it has been lost to the ravages of time.
Open Questions:
  • What is the vial of crystal water used for?
  • There seems to be a quest / reward centered around the Hall of Sinners. What is it?

Notes:

Entrance:
  • You start out by entering Joseph's house. He is not that helpful initially. If you ask him about specific colors though, he provides more info.
    • Red: Zortin has the red piece
      • Kill Zortin to the south of the hall of sinners. Warning, you may need friends since they are a very tough monster.
    • Green: Nobody has heard of its location
      • Search slime below this room
    • Blue: Wait for the big one to come out
      • Kill the Spider Queen when she comes out of the hole in the hall of sinners
    • Yellow: Go to Bodor and he'll give it to you
      • Complete the archery challenge. Arrows are on one side of the area, bow is on the other side. Both of them require skill checks to get to without falling or taking damage.
    • Indigo: The pit fiend has it
      • Cross the beams, and fall down into the pit fiend lair
    • Orange: Stolen by the lizard lord
      • Kill the lizard lord to the east of the hall of sinners. Requires opening a door using the hammer of strength.
    • Violet: Prove your faith to get the violet
      • South of the Hall of Sinners, move stones to create a cross, then kneel in the middle
  • In the dark and wet hallway *do not* drink the water
    • The water will poison you and do a ton of damage
    • That being said, "search slime" to find the green balaclava!
  • In the next room, if you kill the slime worm it drops an old tarnished copper key
    • Warning, the worms can cast hallucination which can cause you problems for five minutes or so.
Hall of Sinners:
  • In the hall of sinners are a number of plaques/tombs dedicated to various sinners
  • In the NE room of the hall of sinnersthere is a hole that aggressive spiders come out of. Eventually if you wait there long enough a spider queen will come out of the hole and attack
    • The spider queen cast poison and can absolutely wreck a low hitpoint spell caster.
    • The spider queen drops blue woolen socks for the LQ
    • The spider queen also drops a swirling black potion which will remove poison (this assumes you survived long enough to drink it)
South Passage of the Hall of Sinners (Puzzle and Zortin):
  • The door to the south of the hall of sinners is unlocked with the key from the slime worm. Go through it.
  • Pushing the button in the room with the ghost resets the puzzle to the south
  • In the next room south, if you look at recess, then look at crack, and then "search crack" you will find a thin vial of crystal clear water
  • Going south you enter some white rooms with a puzzle.
    • There is one open space that you can "push section <direction>" to move the black/white slabs.
    • The middle section is already painted white
    • The goal is to form a cross, with the black sections in the corner and the white sections in the middle outer areas.
    • Once you've created that, go to the middle spot and "kneel"
    • You will get a solid stone key and a beautiful violet hood (for the LQ)
    • The key unlocks the door to the south
  • To the south in the secret tomb room is a very tough fight with Zortin
    • They summon undead ghouls. You need to kill the ghouls fast otherwise the fight becomes unwinnable for the rest of the boot (the summoned ghouls do not go away).
    • Zortin also casts cure serious wounds on himself which makes him annoying to try to burn down.
    • Zortin may teleport you into a coffin where you will quickly die if you don't get out
      • One option is to have a lead ring or heavy weight cast on you to prevent this
    • If you find yourself in the coffin, "search coffin", "search lever", "pull lever" to get out.
  • Once you kill Zortin, you can "search coffin" to find a gold plated orb and a silver plated crown
    • You can sell both for around 1k gold combined
East Passage of the Hall of Sinners (Lizardmen):
  • First take the southern route from the forked junction. This will take you to a very strong (18k+ EXP) Lizard gladiator
    • When you kill the gladiator, it drops a charred black key and a hammer of might. Pick both of these up.
  • Once you take the northern route from the forked junction you will have to kill a powerful hellhound (14k+ EXP).
    • It won't initially show up as aggressive, but that's because it is warming up to cast a fire arrow at you.
  • Past the hellhound you will come up to a tall wooden tower with a bell on top.
    • wield the hammer of might
    • bash pad with hammer
    • Keep doing this until you hit a score of 100. It helps to have a stronger character do this.
    • Note: My duck riftwalker was only able to get a maximum score of 62 with 100+ attempts.
    • This will open a door to the eastern route. Here is the text when it works:
      • Eronk bashes the pad with the Hammer of Might.
      • Eronk looks really pumped up and slams the pad hard!
      • The marker flies up ... BING!!!! Eronk rings the bell!
      • The vibration shatters the Hammer of Might!
      • In the distance you hear a booming laughter!
  • Kill the hellhound on the eastern route, then open the door using the key from the lizard gladiator
North Passage of the Hall of Sinners (Pitfiend and Boror):
  • If you go north of the hall of sinners, and then go east at the pretty intersection, you will find yourself on a beam
  • As you go along the beam, there is a chance for you to fall down, where there is an aggressive pit fiend. 
    • DO NOT TRY TO CLIMB UP WHEN PIT FIEND IS ALIVE
    • If you do so, you'll fall back down and be reduced to 1 hitpoint (aka this will likely kill you)
    • The good news is the pit fiend drops a tatty indego armbands for the level quest.
  • Keep going along the beams (this may take you a few tries) and get to the end where a toy longbow lays on the ground
    • Grab the longbow. You need it for the LQ.
  • Now go back to the pretty intersection and go west.
  • You will hit a dark passage where you will need to go "forward"
    • There are traps that will hit you occasionally, stopping your progress and doing damage
    • I "think" this might be a dexterity related check for this.
    • Keep your health up since there is an aggressive wolf in one of the rooms
  • At the end of the dark hallways are 7 arrows for the LQ
    • These are different than archer arrows for the Nomad class.
    • Now you need to go back the way you came. Don't rush it and keep you hitpoints up!
  • Now go north from the intersection to where Bodor is.
  • "press button" to start the archery challenge
    • The goal is to hit the sparrow, pig, and elephant.
    • The sparrow is the hardest to hit, the elephant is the easiest
    • You can try any order (it doesn't make a difference) but I like to go from hardest to easiest
    • The command is "shoot arrow at <target>"
    • If you run out of arrows, you need to go back and get more when they respawn
      • DO NOT HIT THE BUTTON AGAIN when you come back with more arrows. Just keep going and hit the remaining targets
    • The reward is yellow gardening mittens (used for the LQ)
Completing the Level Quest:
  • Ask man about colors to figure out the order to toss items into the basket
    • THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: If you toss them in the wrong order this will not work
  • "toss <item> into basket" for all 7 items
  • "touch basket" to complete the quest. Here is the text you will see
    • You touch the basket.
    • The basket glows in all the colours of the rainbow.
    • Congratulations! You have just completed Colours!
    • You receive 18486 gold as a reward for completing the quest.
    • Under magical forces, a glowing cloak rises from the ashes!
    • As it settles on the ground, you hear a booming voice congratulate you for your efforts. 'You have recreated the lost rainbow cloak,  which you may now keep.
