The Mythical Valley

Continent: Desolathya

Description:

  • An interesting area, with a mixture of newbie and highbie bits. Lots of secrets and exploring to do here.
  • I don't adventure here often, but I really appreciate the level design. This is a fun area.

Quests:

  • Level Quest 29: King
    • You need to help the undead King die. This requires only two fights, but the second one is a tough one. I'd recommend having a higher level player help you out.
    • There is a ton of optional backstory in this area for the level quest, but you don't need to explore it all to complete the main quest.
  • Side quest: Kill the drake, get the blackblade
    • Not a real quest, but a fun thing to do. The blackblade isn't a good weapon but it sells for around 3200 gold.
  • Side quest: Kill the hermit, get Mythiko
    • This is a hard equipment monster to defeat. The hermit will destroy equipment. But the blade Mythiko is an interesting weapon to have.

Equipment:

  • A pair of nice looking gloves
    • Provides a limited version of the consider skill when you wear them and then "wave {{ Target}}
  • Mythiko
    • A longsword that converts corpses to a tiny amount of EXP.
Open Questions:
  • No idea what happens when you defeat the prince of darkness
  • I'd like to better understand Qlui. What are they looking for? Why do they drop musical equipment? I have so many questions about Qlui!
  • Also why does the paladin drop the same platinum trombone that Qlui drops?

Notes:

Entrance and Cave:

  • When entering the valley you will encounter an old man, but unlike most old men at the entrance of areas, he doesn't give you any helpful information.
    • Despite his description, he isn't that hard to kill and provides some good exp.
  • Going into the mythical cave, you'll encounter a servant shining shields and complaining that they aren't allowed to look at the crystal which tells the future...
  • At the end of the cave is a glowing green crystal. If you look at the crystal it'll give you some flowery text about the various areas in the mythical valley.
    • It talks about a knight inspired by an angel fighting their master. But then it says "nah maybe this is just a commercial"
    • It talks about you going down into a cave to look at a crystal...
    • It talks about a hermit in an oasis guarding something dangerous.
      • This is the hermit who has the Mythiko blade (and will totally destroy your equipment if you attack them)
    • It talks about the huntress tracking down the drake which burned her village
      • This area will be covered in the forest section of this guide
    • It talks about the hanging man and the message he bears
      • This area will be covered in the forest section of the guide
    • It talks about a guard carrying an "alive corpse" inside a tall building
      • This is a hint about how to enter the castle if you are doing the level quest.
    • It talks about a battle against a witch and a speaking statue that comes alive
      • This is the paladin in the tower
The Forest/Woods and Mountain:
  • When going into the forest, it's helpful to know that it's a bit of a maze, so you can go off track very easily.
    • For the most part this isn't a problem, but there is one aggressive troll in the forest that might give you a hard time if you run into them.
    • The map shows you "one" way to go through the forest. If you stick to it, you'll be ok, but if you go off the map you'll end up in a "woods seems to last forever" room that the only real exit is "south" which takes you to the troll room.
  • In the southern part of the forest you will find Flick the Thief.
    • Not much to do with him besides kill him though.
  • In the far southwest side of the forest is a knight that has been hanged in their armour
    • You can "climb tree" to reach the knight
    • Once up the tree if you "look at man" you will see they have are holding a letter under their armour.
    • While you won't get any message about it, after you climb back down from the tree you will then find the letter lying on the ground.
    • If you pick up the letter, you can then read it.
      • You can't read the letter if it is still on the ground.
      • The knight was called Ilendir, and his goal was to give the king back his soul which had been stolen by the devil.
      • He was supposed to meet up with a paladin but never met him. Probably because the paladin was turned into a statue. This is covered in the tower section of this guide.
      • Side note: Ilendir is the name of the Wizard who created this area and level quest.
  • If you go north of the squirrel in the forest, you will encounter a burned ruin
    • Type "enter ruin" to continue north into the ruin itself
  • Continuing along, you'll eventually find a young fightress who is mourning the death of her family
    • If you "comfort fightress" she will tell you that what she really wants is for you to kill the monster that did this. She then lets you know you can continue "north" to climb the mountain, even though that exit is not marked on your map.
    • Note: You could just kill the fightress now if you want to get the blackblade she is holding. She is tough, but much easier to kill than the Drake. But that seem like it's cheating somehow.
  • If you follow the trail and then go east you will encounter Qlui the little monster, crawling in the mud.
    • Qlui is looking for their treasure and can not find it in the mud.
    • I haven't figured out if there is anyway to find that treasure or what it is.
    • If you kill Qlui they drop a small platinum trombone
      • This is really random and I'd love to hear the story behind that.
      • If you "look at picture" on the trombone, it shows an angle holding the trombone.
  • If you continue around the mountain, you eventually will encounter a cave. At the end of the cave is Wrathaug, the Red Drake.
    • The drake is aggressive and tough. Be ready for a fight.
    • One you kill the drake it will drop a skull. You can take this skull back to the fightress and give it to her. As a reward, she will then give you her blackblade.
      • The blackblade isn't special in any way I can tell. But you can sell it for around 3200 gold.
    • The drake also drops a locked chest. You can "force chest" to try and open it up. Be warned, this is a "normal" chest in that it can be trapped and explode or poison you if you try to force it. It can and likely will kill you. But there may be something neat in the chest....
    • Finally, the drake drops an old and rusted amulet. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with it.
      • I tried giving it to Qlui but nothing happened.

The Tower (and the Entrance to Hell):

  • A guard stands outside the tower.
    • He's not the sharpest tool in the shed...
    • If you "play dead" he will take you inside the tower.
  • Inside the tower is an undead king who wants to die.
    • He is super powerful, so unless you have a very high level party helping you, you are not going to be able to kill him by fighting him.
    • If you give him the black gem you got from the demons in the mine (see the later section), this will "heal" the king, returning him to life.
    • The king will then age rapidly and die. This is a blessing and the king is happy to finally have everything end. This will also award you the level quest if you are doing that!
  • Once the king is dead, you can sit on the throne which will teleport you to hell.
    • There is a prince of darkness waiting for you which is *super* powerful. Also there is no exit.......
    • If you try to pray, the prince of darkness will laugh at you.
    • It turns out you are just dreaming though. If you "wake up" you will exit the area and find yourself back in the throne room.

The Dwarven Mine (aka the Well):

  • If you continue past the tower you will come to a dead-end with a well. You can "enter well" to climb down into it.
  • There are a couple of dwarves in the mine which you can kill for exp. The only one you need to kill though if you are doing the level quest is Broth who will block your way.
    • Broth is pretty tough, so be ready for a fight.
    • When you kill him, Broth drops a silvered amulet which if you look at it says it is only given to the oldest dwarfs.
    • What is up with all the random amulets and rings in this area? Can they do anything special?
  • There is also a random gold nugget that will spawn in one of the mine rooms
  • In the end room of the mine is a horn, if you "blow horn" it will summon three demons
    • Initially they will not be aggressive, but if you take any offensive actions they will attack
    • Two of the demons are pretty easy to kill, but Nemesis is nasty and will cast curse which can turn you into a frog
    • I recommend only staying in the room when attacking for 3 rounds so you limit your chances of getting hit by curse.
    • I also recommend killing the two minor demons first. They die pretty easy and then you don't have to worry about them attacking you while you take down Nemesis.
      • The only downside is it seemed like Nemesis hit harder once I did that, though it could just be bad luck on my part.
    • Once you kill Nemesis, he drops a black gem which you need if you are doing the level quest. Note, this gem is actually the king's soul!
The Citadel of Shadows:
  • In the southern stairway in the citadel you'll be stopped as the stairway has been blocked off by a wall.
    • If you have a pick, you can "break wall" to create a hole. If you don't have a pick, you can get one by killing one of the dwarves in the well.
    • You can now "enter hole" to continue on.
  • At the top of the tower is Max the Gray Magician
    • Looks like he was imprisoned up there after a quarrel with Shybil the witch, and his lover, a few decades ago.
    • If you kill him, he drops a pair of nice looking gloves
      • These grant a limited form of the consider skill that you can use by "wave {{ Target }}"
      • Not super helpful, but kind of neat...
      • Example:
        • You wave with your magic glove and the world of secrets is yours...
        • Max is really DANGEROUS!
  • If you go in the other direction and down into the basement you'll meet the witch Shybil
    • If you kill her, she drops a golden ring
    • If you pick up the ring and "look at carvings" you will see the word SHAZAM
  • Next, go into the room of the statue carrying the ring (the following doesn't work if you don't have it)
    • If you "SAY SHAZAM" you'll notice the statue get harder.
    • If you reverse the spell by saying the word backwords, (aka "say MAZAHS") it will free the paladin.
  • The paladin doesn't seem to answer questions.
    • If you look at them, it implies that the paladin will tell you something useful if you wait long enough.
    • He does eventually say demons in the mine have the soul of the king
    • Side note: You can't turn him back to stone with the magic word. I may have tried this...
    • Warning: If you attack him, he stuns more than any other monster I've encountered.
    • When you kill him, he drops a platinum trombone. Looks like the same item that Qlui drops... I have so many questions!!!

The Desert (and Obtaining the Sword Mythiko):

  • Go to the tower and head east until you hit the desert. This is the same room that you can enter the well to visit the dwarven mines.
    • 'enter desert' to enter a desert maze.
  • The desert maze is not random, so if you follow the map above it will take you where you need to go.
  • You'll encounter a Oasis, and a mute boy named Mewt who will block you from entering a nearby shed
    • You'll need to kill mewt to get by, which is sad since I think he's just protecting you.
  • Inside the shed is a hermit and the blade Mythiko which is lying on the ground
    • The hermit will stop you from picking up the blade.
    • If you attempt to kill the hermit, be warned, he will destroy your equipment
    • In fact, I think he's the most famous equipment destroyer in Batmud. You've been warned
    • He is also a very tough monster to kill....
  • The reward from this is the blade Mythiko.
    • It will supposedly convert corpses to a small amount of exp which is nice and better than using a shovel.

  • Old man standing here, minding his own business
