Monk Sect Info
Overview:
After earning 20 levels in a martial arts guild (Warrior Monks or the "secret assassination guild") you can join a sect that will provide additional skills, bonuses, and will modify your martial arts attacks. Right now there are three sects to choose from, each of which provide different bonuses and quests. While you can switch between sects, the reputation/skills you earn from them is not shared and you can only make the switch once a week.
Learning Sect Powers:
Important Point: While sect powers are improved as your character gains EXP, they do not actually cost any real EXP beyond the initial cultivation cost. This is nice for newbies as they are essentially "free". That being said, you need to actively work at saving the bonus EXP through meditation, and high level players have it easier since they are probably earning more EXP than newer players.
Learning New Sect Powers: Sect powers will be revealed to you as you train them up, but you can't use them until they are fully cultivated. When you use the comment "monk sect skills" you will get a printout like:
Cultivating EXP into powers: Mantras are special bonuses that you can gain when your character meditates. One mantra in particular, "introspection", allows to you to cultivate additional skills to improve them. Basically as you earn EXP, your character saves up a copy of the EXP for cultivation. If your character dies, all of this "cultivation EXP" is lost, regardless of how you resurrect your character. But when you meditate with the mantra of introspection enabled, some of that cultivated EXP is applied to improve the skill you are currently cultivating. The amount of EXP that is saved with each mediation depends on how highly you have the Mantra of Introspection trained up.
While there is no way to directly check if you have cultivation EXP saved up, you can tell you cultivated all of it when you perform a meditation and you do not see a message saying:
- "Your self-reflection is making you wiser and more enlightened"
- You have finished cultivating Mantra of Body Flows and unlocked it for use
To activate introspection: monk sect mantra introspection
To select a power to cultivate: monk sect cultivate <power>
To see current progress of cultivation: monk sect progress
- You will see an ASCII art (such as of a monk meditating). If you have colors turned on in your terminal, the part of the picture that is white (starts from the top) is your progress. It initially starts off *very* slow for how much EXP you cultivate per meditation. It will speed up as you improve your trained percentage of Mantra of Introspection.
- The amount you have Mantra of Introspection trained has a huge impact on how much EXP you cultivate.
- I'm not sure if it is linear or exponential improvement the higher your % in Introspection goes, but you probably won't cultivate your first skill until you Introspection is at 8%.
- Initially progress is super slow, but don't get discouraged. It will speed up over time.
- Once you cultivate a power, go back to your trainer and talk to them to unlock another power to cultivate.

Advancing Powers Via Use: As you use sect skills you will occasionally get an automatic skill advancement.
Meditation:
Description of Sect Powers:
Mantras:
- Mantra of Inspiration
- Availability: All Sects
- Description:
- Allows you to cultivate new sect powers when you meditate
- Mantra of Body Flows
- Availability: All Sects
- Description:
- Provides a +HP regen bonus when you meditate.
- Notes:
- The bonus +HPR increases in potency and duration the higher percentage it is at.
- At 100% trained, I've been told it provides around +20 HPR for 30 minutes.
- This would be a great bonus, but I'll admit I never have it turned on since I'm too busy using inspiration to unlock other skills.
- You will see messages when you meditate such as:
- You feel your blood circulating more quickly
- You feel your regeneration speeding up.
- This doesn't show up as a normal "effect" but you can see how long it is active if you use the command "monk sect effects".
- When it expires you will get the following message:
- Your mantra of body flows is no longer active
Meridians:
- Lung Meridian
- Availability: All Sects
- Description:
- Focus points are used to activate later skills
- Usage Info:
- If focus is on Left or Right (as seen in your monk sect display) you will get a bonus to mantras based on how many focus points you have. This is automatically applied.
- You will see the message "You open your energy channels and focus more intensely" when you meditate.
- This seemed to make a big difference when I was cultivating sect skills.
- Notes:
- Type "monk sect display" to periodically display the meridian messages. This will pop up even when you are not in combat which can be annoying.
- Unlike some of the other skills, meridians are "always on" so you don't need to do anything special to activate them.
- The skill will automatically level up over time when you are performing offensive skills.
- The % Lung Meridian is trained determines the maximum number of focus points you can have. So if the range (as seen using 'monk sect meridians') is 2-8, lung meridian trained to 1% will give you 2 focus, while it being at 100% would give you 8 maximum focus.
Scarlet Lotus Sect:
Open to: Monks, Tigers
Description:
Trainer Location: Rilynt'tar Sewers
- Option 1) Enter via the Public Works building
- Go to the public works building in Rilynt'tar (North-East of City)
- In the public works building there are some ugly rubber suits. Grab one and put it on
- If you don't you'll take damage from the next part
- In the staff room you can "turn valve" to open a pipe. Then "enter pipe"
- You can wait in the pipe for a minute or two and eventually the sewage will push you though.
- You can speed things up by repeatedly typing "forward"
- Option 2) Enter via the Slum Building basement
- Go to the slum building and then go into the basement
- Take the wrench from the toolbox and wield it
- Type "fix pipe" to fix the leak and then wait for the water to fully drain (takes around a minute)
- Type "Open grate" and then go down to the sewers
- Option 3) Use the outerworld entrance (Note, this is the only exit if you didn't come in via the slum building)
- There is an entrance/exit in the outerworld you can access if you go to the place marked on the map.
Initiation Tasks:
- Find Shozai the Paupers Prince in the Rilynt'tar Sewers and talk to him
- He wanders around but he generally stays around the central part of the sewers.
- In the dialogue you will have a chance to ask him about "alms" and then "donation". He will then tell you how much gold you need to donate to start the initiation process. The amount he charges is based on your Character Level with more advanced players required to pay more.
- Exit the conversation with Shozai, and then give him the money he asked for. Once you give him enough he will say "That is fair".
- Next type the command "monk sect choose scarlet lotus"
- Talk to Shozai again. He will have a different set of conversations for you to walk through.
- If you ask about "mantras" he will tell you to learn a special one you need to travel the world and to start at the Monk monastery.
- Go to the monk monastery in the middle of the lake in Lucetium. Go to the joining/training room and meditate.
- You will get a message telling you to go to the biggest waterfall in Lucetium, in the middle of a jungle and meditate there.
- Once you meditate in the middle of the waterfall you will be given another task to meditate on a volcano near a place called Jungle Cave in Furnachia.
- You are also granted the temporary skill "mountaineering" which will let you climb mountains if you have a rope. This skill won't expire until the next boot at least. It may actually stick around until you complete the next task but I haven't tested that.
- You can buy a rope from the Tool shop in Lorenchia for 2 gold before you head to Furnachia. You can also pick up a "pick" at the weapon store which can help as well
- Travel to the Jungle Cave in Furnachia. Your target is the volcano 'v' east of it.
- To get past the mountain "use mountaineering at <direction>" to move one tile. Aka "use mountaineering at s"
- You can speed things up by starting from the river to the south of the volcano so you only need to climb a few mountain tiles.
- Once on the 'v', use meditation and you will receive a vision to visit the Tinmen Monestary in Desolathya.
- Compared to the last two, the tinmen monastery is a pretty easy spot to reach.
- Enter into the first room and use meditation.
- You will learn the manta of introspection
- Set your mantra using the command "monk sect mantra introspection"
- Now return to Shozai the Paupers Prince in the Rilynt'tar Sewers
- Talk to Shozai and ask him about body flows. He will then teach you the basics for them
- You can now increase your proficiency in body flows using introspection.
- To focus on body flows use the command "monk sect cultivate body flows"
