Northrend

Continent: Laenor

Description:
  • A village of former raiders and marauders who are trying farming. This isn't going well as their neighbors are now attacking them.
  • It's a good newbie area with lots of easy monsters that drop money and equipment
  • It's also of the "newest" areas of Batmud
    • This area has a colorful history and was originally supposed to be part of a much bigger set of areas and quests. Rather than let it gather dust in an uncompleted state, the Wizard Darol cleaned it up and released this sub-area including the level quest. You can read more about this [here].
    • The area certainly feels incomplete. There is a lot of quest scaffolding that was done with the other villages, but there is no real follow-up or actions you can take as a player.
Quests:

  • LQ 33: Northern Raiders
    • For the first part of the quest you'll need to visit a neighboring area (Mithil Stonedown), kill Triock, take their staff, and then give the staff to Holgar, the chief of this town.
    • For the second part, you need to give the chief five helmets. It can be any helmet, so a good place to grab them is from the miners in the Dortlewall Crystite Mines.
    • For the third part of the quest, you'll need to bring the chief a weapon from a monster in a different area. There are several possible options for this so you need to advance to this stage in the quest to figure out which one you need to kill.
Equipment:
  • None that I know of.
Open Questions:
  • There seems like a lot of unfinished parts of this area, such as all the raiding going on and the other villages. This makes sense considering how this area was developed/released, but it would be interesting to see if any more of that questline was implemented.

Notes:

Entrance:
  • The village you enter name's is Holgar's Head and appears to be a small farming community.
    • The villagers look like former marauders who have turned to farming. They have *feelings* about this and they are feuding with the neighboring villages
      • The village of Jovidr has been having their animals graze in the fields and have been eating Holgar's crops so the villagers of Holgar have been chasing off their animals
      • The village of Vagrektrop has been dousing the fields with salt water so the villagers of Holgar have been cutting down their trees.
  • As a general FYI: Most villages will be disturbed and turn aggressive if offensive spells and skills are used.
  • There is a cobbler near the entrance that will answer some questions
    • Asking about crops: "We have always had wheat except for this year it might be tough."
    • You can ask about Jovidr and saboteurs to get gossip on the neighboring villages (there are a lot of bad feelings).
  • In the house near the entrance there is a wealthy merchant you can talk to
    • If you ask them about 'war' or 'raids' the merchant replies that they don't know if they should finance the war/raids.
    • If you ask about 'incident' they reply the wheat issue is bad for business but there may be a way to take advantage of the situation.
  • In the yard outside of the house there is an interesting rock, but I couldn't figure out how to interact with it.
  • In the village center there is a large rock. The description says it is easy to climb on, but it doesn't seem like you can actually climb on it.
  • In the road by the farrier (stable) you can talk to the farrier
    • If you ask them about raiders, the farrier says their town used to be raiders in the good old days. Some of the townspeople are agitating to go back to being raiders.
    • You can ask about Jovidr and Vagrektrop to get further confirmation about the feuds with neighboring villages.
    • In other flavor text the farrier says: "We should attack Agathoria to compensate our losses."
  • By the well is a cat that is barking like a dog.
    • It didn't seem like I could enter or search the well
  • In the hut is a farmer you can talk to
    • Asking about "wars", the farmer says he's been in them and doesn't like them
    • Asking about "raiders", the farmer says there are cities on the coast they could attack, but that the prospect terrifies them.
    • You can ask about Jovidr and Vagrektrop to get further confirmation about the the cows and the crop sabotage.
  • You can visit the Holgar, the village chief, who will answer some of your questions.
    • If you ask him about Jovidr and Vagrektrop he says some disparaging things about their people and their skills.
    • If you ask them about 'fields' the chief confirms the fields were ruined.
    • If you ask him about 'quest' the chief tells you to visit Mithil Stonedown and bring them the staff Lomilliator from Triock. After you do that you can talk more.
      • The chief states they want Triock eliminated. The staff is just proof of the deed.
      • My guide of Mithil Stonedown can be found [here]. The area is to the west of Northrend.
      • Triock is a 15k monster that hits like a normal 15k monster (aka can be tough to solo for a level 32 character). They also cast anti-magic field which is a real pain if you are a spell caster.
    • Response when you bring the cheif Triock's staff:
      • Holgar says 'You brought me Triock's staff? Hmm..maybe you could be useful to me.'
      • Holgar says 'We have enough breastplates for everyone, but what we could use is some helmets. Five should be enough. Bring them to me and I'll award you.
    • For the "Collect 5 helmets" quest:
      • It doesn't have to be a specific helmet, any will do.
      • While there aren't any creatures that drop helmets around this area, a great place to collect them is the Dortlewall Crystite Mines! [link]. Just kill miners, or pick up the hats that other players have left behind while killing miners and collecting crystite.
      • Once you have five hats, give them to Holgar and he'll have one more quest to ask for you.
    • Collect a specific weapon:
      • The weapon Holgar asks for you can change from boot to boot. This really surprised me as I was writing this guide since I collected one and planned to turn it in the next day only to find out the target had changed. Long story short, it is hard to collect everything first and just bringing them to Holgar to complete the quest in one visit.
      • One target is the Mysterious fighter in Kathvael forest. They are pretty easy to kill but there are two other monsters in the room you need to deal with as well.
        • Your goal is to colect the Longsword of the Ogrekiller
      • Another target is Mongrelman at Seashore tower
        • You need to collect the mongrel blade
        • While I haven't written a guide for this area, you can enter the tower by using "enter path" 1 east from the entrance. Later on, you will "enter fireplace". Head to the west when you can and you'll encounter the mongrelman you need to kill. Note: There are other mongrelmen that you will need see invisible to attack, but the quest one is visible. See invisible certainly helps though. You can see invisible via a spell or buying a see invisible ring from the ringshop in Arelium.
      • After you give the weapon to Holgar the following happens:
        • Holgar exclaims 'This will do! Now we're ready to die. Watch out filthy dogs of Jovidr and Vagrektrop!'
        • Congratulations! You have just completed Northern raiders!
        • You receive 8668 gold as a reward for completing the quest.
