Stagira

Continent: Lucetium

Description:
  • Midbie area near a lot of other midbie areas in Lucetium, so a good place to get experience
  • Lots of wandering aggressive monsters though, so you need to be careful and not idle here.
Quests:

  • LQ 46: Return the Chest
    • Note: I've been told if you make any of the townsfolk turn aggressive to you (even accidently) then you can not turn in and complete the quest. Therefore it's very important to turn invisible (either using a potion or spell) when traveling through the town.
    • You will also need a character that has 88 or more dexterity and can summon to get past one skill check required to climb the mountain.
      • It might be less than 88 dexterity for the skill check, but it is more than 77.
Equipment:
  • Claw of Gilsul
    • Obtained by giving the claw you get from killing Gilsul to the mage Irrlan.
    • Provides +1 Spr, +1 Wis, and has a sac value of around 150k.
Open Questions:
  • Is there a tip that tells you to simply type "path" in the forest to find the mountain path? I would have never figured this out without spoilers. This is even after reading the note in the Ranger's hut.
Map:
Map of Stagira

Notes:

Entrance (Town Road, Shops, Guardhouse):
  • As a warning, when you enter the town, occasionally an aggressive bird will span and attack you. So don't idle here!!!
  • All along the streets are also a number of wandering townspeople, guards, and aggressive undead birds. You can quickly find yourself in a bad position as new combatants wander in or your target flees to another room.
  • If you go to the general store, you will find it is closed
    • I don't think aggressive monsters wander in here though, so it is a good place to rest!
  • The armoury is also closed for business.
    • Unlike the general store, monsters can wander in to this store, so don't idle here!
  • In the guardhouse if you use aggressive spells/skills you can agro the guards.
    • This is a problem since aggressive birds wander in there so you need to be careful fighting them. It's usually best to wait outside and let them wander to you vs. risking fighting the guards too.
    • The guards block passage to the jail cells to the west. If you want to get to them I think you need to kill them.
    • The good news is there is nothing in the jail cells. So the only reason to go to them is to get the explore experience.
  • The captain of the guards in the guardhouse does not seem to answer any of your questions or provide helpful information
  • In the center of the town are two rooms listed as the "settled area of Stagira".
    • In the leftmost one all the houses are boarded over and you can't interact with them
    • In the rightmost one, there is a home with an open window you can climb through by typing "window"
    • That house belongs to a ranger
Ranger House:
  • There is an axe hanging on the wall that was a 20 year service present from the Ranger Guildmaster Sable.
    • It is protected so you can not steal it
  • On the table is a scroll that explains how to find a secret but marked path through the forest.
    • The scroll is smudged so you can't read the instructions on how to find the path.
    • It talks about "knowing where to look" and says "you should s..."
City Hall:
  • If you are doing the Level Quest, you'll turn in the final part of it on the second floor of city hall
  • Otherwise, there are all sorts of agressive birds running around here. The gate was "jammed open" so it is open to anything wandering through the streets
  • In the messy mage room you can find the disorganized mage Irrlan.
    • There doesn't seem to be anything to interact with. I did try various "searches" though.
    • When asking Irrlan about "bird" he replied that the mayor went searching for the source of the attacks.
    • Once you killed the final boss in this area, you can give Irrlan its claw and Irrlan will transform it into a nice piece of equipment.
  • There is a general map of the town in the northernmost room on the first floor
    • The map doesn't have a lot of details in it, though it roughly matches the map I've been creating which is nice.
  • On the second floor you can enter the mayor's office via the curtains to the west.
    • The mayor's office is super suss. Initially the mayor isn't there, but there is an empty pedestal to place the final treasure from the LQ onto it.
    • There is also a huge crack in the wall which I can't figure out how to enter.
    • Once you rescue the mayor, they will show up here and you can talk to them.
      • The only thing they say is if you ask them about the chest that you need to place it on the pedestal.
Forest:
  • The room description says "lost in forest" but you can "leave" to get back to the city.
    • Funny that there aren't any birds in the forest. They must all be attacking the town...
  • The forest is one of Batmud's non-Euclidean mazes. So you'll need to drop coins to find you way through it, and be prepared to backtrack to go "forward"
  • For me, all the mazes started off by going South. Then 3 West, 1 East, and then 1 West brought me to a clearing where the Thug House was (enter by typing "leave").
  • From the entrance room you can also type "path" to enter the mountain path
    • I must be missing a tip for this since I don't think I would have ever figured this out without spoilers, and that is even with reading the note in the Ranger's house...
Thug House:
  • There are mean looking thugs in the house, but they are not aggressive and the ones on the first floor don't block you.
  • In the kitchen, "search mat" to discover a trapdoor. Then "enter trapdoor" to go down into the cellar.
  • In the cellar is Igor the Leader of Thugs. They will block you from going past them.
    • If you can turn invisible, you can sneak right by them.
  • In the next room, use the command "remove plank" three times to remove all the planks in the floor
    • This will free the mayor who was kidnapped. He leaves and says to meet him in Stagira to talk.
    • You can now find the mayor in their office in city hall.
Mountain Path:
  • Once you are on the mountain path there are three exits:
    • Picking the "forest" will take you to a random part of the forest maze.
    • Picking the hidden option "path" will take you to back to the start of the forest
    • You will need to "climb ledge" to make your way up the mountain.
      • There is a very high Dexterity check to make it up to the ledge. If you don't make it you will get a message saying: "You slide back."
      • My level 27 Duck Riftwalker could not make it up the mountain....
      • My level 45 Orc Tzarakk also failed to climb the ledge with 77 Dexterity
      • When I got a blessing from the dark gods and had 88 Dexterity I was able to climb the ledge
  • Walking along the mountain path you will come to a number of rooms, each with two aggressive birds in them. The birds get more dangerous the further you get.
  • At the very end of the mountain is Gilsul (A humanoid creature).
    • Gilsul is a 300k monster and the final boss of the level quest. You need to kill him to get the chest.
    • Gilsul starts out passive, so you can get all your protections put in place before attacking him.
    • As a warning, Gilsul has two "stages" to his attacks. Once you kill him initially he will transform into a giant bird with 100% health and start hitting harder.
    • Once you kill him he will drop a sealed chest as well as a claw. Pick both up.
      • As a side note, the chest was too heavy for my duck mage to pick up so we had to cast featherweight on it first.
Completing the Level Quest:
  • First, make sure you have rescued the mayor from the thugs
  • Next kill Gilsul and collect the chest
  • Go back to the town hall where the mayor is, and "place chest on pedestal"
  • Text when you complete the quest:
    • Ard chants some magic words and the pedestal starts to move to the
    • crack in the wall. As the pedestal moves in the wall the crack closes.
    • Congratulations! You have just completed Return the chest!
    • You receive 4526 gold as a reward for completing the quest.
  • Don't forget to give the claw to the Mage Irrlan to get the "Claw of Gilsul"!
  • Here is some flavor text from the claw that explains what was going on in this area:
    • Some time ago the city of Stagira was attacked by a huge amount of birds. They had a leader, a feared monstrous being called Gilsul. He was human, but the story goes a while back. Back then Gilsul was a small boy, a young man interested in the most noble bird - the eagle. He was particularly happy with everything. But then, at the age of 40 an accident happened. A local mage made a terrible mistake with a spell long forgotten, turning Gilsul into the animal he admired - the eagle. Luckily the mage managed to undo the spell but only partially. The soul of the great eagle remained inside Gilsul and he turned into a hideous and hated man. People of Stagira banished him to the mountains, but Gilsul made a promise that he would come back and have his revenge. Now he has found out that a mysterious object holding great magics has been hid in Stagira. Without any hesitation Gilsul decided take his revenge now...
