Oakvale

Continent: Laenor

Description:

  • The town of Oakvale is known for their faerie merchants in the south
    • You can buy herbs, gnome gadgets, clothing, and some weird specialty items here.
  • A mid-level area but there are no aggressive monsters so it is safe to explore
  • There are some secrets for players who want to delve into the backstory and help the townsfolk.

Open Questions:
  • How to you get rid of the ghost in the stables
    • It seems like you need to complete the necklace quest to get to Hansel's corpse.
  • What is the deal with the stolen necklace?
    • I suspect it has something to do with Stephanie Carmin but how do you get her to help you?

Map:

Notes:

Entrance:
  • When entering the town, you'll notice it is surrounded by a new stone wall. The wall is low, but the stones are inscribed with magical runes. Looks like they are having problems with magical creatures...
  • Upon entering oakvile, the door to the southeast leads to the home of Henrik DeVeil but it is locked
Oakvale Inn:
  • In the entrance to Oakvale Inn you will meet the innkeeper Alfons Farson
    • If you ask them about "help" they will say that a ghost has invaded the stables and they need help getting rid of it.
    • If you ask about "ghost" they say that a visiting witch tried to banish it but it didn't work. Also killing the ghost is not good enough since it will just reappear later.
    • If you ask him about armstrong, he says the boy killed himself and is buried in the catacombs. The mayor has the key.
    • Side note: He will cast banish if you attack him so make sure you have a lead ring or some other anti-teleport ability applied before doing that.
  • In the guest room areas you can "open door 2" through "open door 5" to gain access to the guest rooms
    • The rooms let you rest (aka log out), but otherwise don't seem to be special in any fashion.
    • Claire Armstrong (the maid) can also be found here. If you ask her about "harold" she will tell you he's been feeling down about what happened to his son Hansel
  • Stables (North End)
    • There is a ghost of a young man here. They are invisible so you need some way to be able to see them (such as wearing a ring of see invisibility)
    • The ghost's neck is broken so it can not speak...
    • The person who made the ghost probably hanged themselves based on the description of the hay loft above them.
  • Stables (South End)
    • You will meet Harold Armstrong. If you ask him about "ghost" he'll let you know the ghost is of his kid (Hansel)...
  • In the master bedroom you will run into Magda Farson
    • You can ask her about Claire and Alfons, but she doesn't say anything interesting.
Oakvale Town Hall:
  • In the townhall you can find the mayor Gordon DeVeil
    • He will tell you that the town is known for their fairy market to the south, but he warns you the fairies are a tricky lot.
    • If you ask him about catacombs he says he needs help first finding a necklace.
  • Henrik DeViel is the chief of the guard
    • If you ask Henrik about "necklace" he will say that it was stolen. He thinks Stephanie was somehow involved. If you ask him about her he says he thinks she is linked to the thieves guild.
    • I found a "small iron key with the tag 'Henrik'" on the floor one time I came into the room. I assume that a player killed him and he dropped it. It unsurprising opens the door to his house to the north.
      • As far as I can tell, there is nothing to do in his home besides get EXP for exploring it.
  • Upstairs you can meet the mayor's daughter Alice
    • If you ask her about Gordon she says he is doing a great job, unlike his precursor. If you ask her about the precursor, she says Granny Anne said he turned into a lark!?
  • The younger son Frank is also upstairs
    • Everyone seems to say he is  trouble.
    • If you ask him about Stephanie he says she's been teaching him some new tricks.
  • In the master bedroom you can meet Erika DeVeil, the wife of the mayor
    • If you ask her about Bridget she gives you a long story
      • TLDR: Faeries switched Bridget with one of their own. The townspeople sent off an expedition to get her back, and Phoebe Goodman and Ragnar Moden were lost., and the changeling-Bridget ran away.
      • If you talk to Bridget (the witch) about this she will confirm a lot of it.
Grandmother Anne's Cottage:
  • Grandmother Anne knows the village history and is ready to spill the tea
    • Also she will cast polymorph and age on you if you attack her, so I strongly recommend leaving her alone.
    • If you ask her about "lark" she says the previous mayor got in trouble with the fairies and was turned into an unhappy lark.
    • If you ask her about armstrong she laments about the 15 year old Armstrong kid killing himself.
Oakvale Smith:
  • At the smith you can type "list" to buy a few items.
    • He will also buy basic weapons which is nice if you want to make a few extra gold selling low value items you pick up in this area.
  • In the shed behind the smithy there is a special command to "dig coal" but I didn't find anything when I tried it...
Hidden Path and Hut:
  • In the path around Oakvile on the west side, you can "climb fence" to enter a hidden path outside the village
    • Note, in the path to the south of this if you look at the forest it says you see a glint of light to the northwest. That's probably this path....
  • At the end of the path is a hut
    • Inside the hut is Bridget Goodman a self taught witch
    • If you ask her about "ghost" she will mention a seance. If you ask her about seance she will say she needs a finger from the deceased and that you need to do a task for her first.
    • If you ask her about "something" she says she wants her old teddybear from her old room in the cellar in the Spirits and Souls.
      • If you give her the teddybear from the cellar, she will thank you. If you then ask her about "seance" she will give you a blessed athame, and says the part of the body must be cut with it.
    • If you ask her about phoebe, she says that she's a slave of the faire queen, but at least she can meet her real child (the real Bridget) every once in a while
Home of the Modens:
  • In this home for three people, only Ingrid Moden remains.
    • If you ask her about "bridget" she says she is the reason she's a widow, and to ask Erika Deveil about the story
Oakvale Shoppe:
  • Stephanie Carmin is the shopkeeper
    • She's suspected by Henrik of being involved in the thieves guild...
    • If you ask her about the necklace she says she won't just tell you about it...
    • She admits she has been training the mayor's son Frank
    • If you ask her about darren she says he is a welcome customer, so to say...
    • She blocks the door to the backroom.
Abandoned House:
  • Not much to see here, but there are a lot of footprints in the dust....
Spirit and Souls:
  • This place seems like a combination antique store and bar
    • You can "buy beer" to get a beer for 50 gold
    • If you ask John about business he mentions that there is some business with a necklace that is causing problems.
    • If you ask Darren about guild he starts talking about the thieves guild, which of course he has no part in...
    • If you ask Bruce about necklace, he says that there is a stolen necklace and he suspects the faeries are behind it.
    • When I entered I found a "complex steel key" on the ground, likely dropped by Bruce when another player killed him. This unlocks the door in the basement
    • If you ask Bruce about his daughter Bridget he gets all worried....
    • Bruce blocks your access to the south. This doesn't matter much because...
  • If you go outside to the Southeastern part of the road, and "search bushes" you will find a hidden entrance to the backroom of the Spirt and Souls.
  • Going down to the cellar is a locked room to the north
    • You can unlock that door with the "complex steel key"
  • Behind the door is a doll house.
    • On the floor is a teadybear which you can take. This is the bear Bridget needs before she will perform a séance for you to get rid of the ghost.
Faerie Merchants:
  • Just south of the town outside the gate are some larks
    • The unhappy lark is probably the former mayor....
  • In the blue tent is Kia-kai Stormwind who sells some interesting items...
    • I kind of want to buy the frogsuit out of morbid curiosity...
  • In the yellow tent is Nettle Morningdew
    • She will cast hallucinate on you which is really annoying.
    • She sells a large selection of herbs. You can't tell what they are without plant lore though.
  • In the green stand is Olven Deerhorn, a gnomish merchant
    • He sells an assortment of humming magical apparatuses. Not sure what they do.
  • In the Violet stand is Cobweb homecrest, a faerie merchant
    • They sell a wide variety of clothes. Nothing really stands out here.
