Catfolk Treehouse

Continent: Lucetium

Description:

  • Treetop village with a lot of locked doors, each with a unique key that changes per boot.
    • Basically, expect to do a lot of searching to unlock all the doors.
    • There's some "secrets" in the locked rooms, but mostly this just opens up more areas to find creatures to kill.
  • In the "non-secret" areas, there is only on aggressive creature (a racist old catfolk) that will attack non-catfolk players on sight. This makes the area fairly safe to explore for newbies.
    • The locked rooms do not grant explore EXP though, so feel free to skip them unless you are trying to solve the mini-quests here.
    • The bridge guards WILL become aggressive if you start to attack townsfolk though. So be careful about that.
  • Tons of secrets to discover and it is linked to several other areas
    • E.g. Orc Samurai
  • Some of the creatures will block you if you attack them and try to flee, so this is a good area to come with a party so you can ensure you kill things without needing to run away and regen.
  • There is a store in the northwest tree, which is a great place for low level players to sell equipment they picked up from what other players have left from their kills.
    • This is one of the best areas I've found for new players to earn money
    • There is also a gambling game which has a positive chance to win.
Quests:

  • None that I know of.
Equipment:
  • A robe shaped chunk of air
    • Obtained by killing the ExpExp party in the tavern backroom
    • (One of the lightest robe you can get)
  • A crystal jar of green salve
    • Obtained by killing the ExpExp party in the tavern backroom
    • Grants magic and cold resist for 10 minutes
    • 4 applications in the jar
  • I think there is a lot of equipment you can get here...
Open Questions:
  • Is there value in exploring all the locked rooms.
  • What happens if you pull the lever in the jailhouse?
  • Do you get anything killing the ninja and thief in the warehouse?
    • Is this the panther gang mentioned in the letter from Cerveza?
  • What do you place in the circles located in the statue base in the temple of Bast?
  • What's up with the empty card box you get in the backroom of the casino?
  • What's up with the books in the library? Is there any value with reading them?
  • Where is A.J. and how can you send him back to his wife?
  • What does the locker key dropped by the adventurer party unlock?

Map:

Notes:

Entrance:
  • To enter the treehouse from the starting tile, type "climb ladder"
General Notes:
  • WARNING: If you attack citizens of the catfolk treehouse the guards will become aggressive when they see you and not let you pass.
  • All the locked rooms require a different key to open. The key required changes per-boot, so one day a door might require a tarnished old brass house key to unlock, and the next day it might require a shiny new silver house key.
    • Many of the wandering catfolk will drop keys when you kill them. It's random though, and then finding the house the key goes to can be a task...
    • Note: The acid mage spell "lock biter" can also be used to dissolve the locks and open the doors.
    • It's not just the doors that change per boot, but the actual houses those doors lead to as well.
  • In the locked rooms will be various catfolk. Many of them can be interacted with.
    • Also, you can not "search" anything in the rooms until you have killed all the occupants.
  • There is a wandering racist catfolk that will attack any non-catfolk player characters.
  • There is a wandering black-furred panther that is invisible.
Locked Rooms: (Note: The location of these houses change per boot)
  • One house contains a catfolk family.
    • You can "search bed" if you kill them all first.
    • In the bed I found a small flat box. I had to force the box open, but inside it had pieces of jewelry from the catfolk village.
    • One of the kittens drops a doll that you can dress up in clothes if you want
    • The other kitten drops a not that says they "LUV THEIR MOMMY"
  • Another house contains a worried catfolk.
    • It seems like you can ask the catfolk questions.
    • If you "ask catfolk about worried" they will tell you they lost all their money in a poker game.
  • There is a house that contains a late catfolk.
    • It seems like you can ask her questions, but I couldn't find the right keyword to get her to respond.
  • In the northern center tree (by the palace), all the catfolk homes are inhabited by lions.
    • I didn't search the rooms here, but I suspect there are some secrets waiting to be discovered here.
Treetop Village (Entrance Tree):
  • The first building you come to is the Inn of the Blooming Branch
    • You can ask the innkeeper about "rates" to rent a room.
    • To rent a room type "purchase pass" which costs around 75 gold. This will let you go into the next room and rest. By rest I mean it will log your character out of the game.
  • To the northeast is a catfolk nursery with a bunch of kittens in it.
  • In the southeast is a catfolk home that is under construction
    • The door to this isn't locked, just closed...
    • There is a door (as in an actual item you can pick up) in this room.
    • You can also find the catfolk Cerveza there. You can pick up a letter he sent to his sister the orc samurai area where he talks about the resurgence of the "Panther Gang".
      • I gave him the letter but nothing happened...
      • If you kill them, they drop a hinge, a doorknob, and a hammer, which seems like enough to install the door, but I couldn't figure out how to do that.
Treetop Village (Southwest Tree):
  • In the south is a warehouse with four boxes which is part of a puzzle.
    • There is a hole in the wall (Right above location E5. Look at hole to confirm) that you can't reach by yourself. You need to move the boxes so they form a stairway to the hole.
      • The Huge box needs to be under the hole, with the large box next to it, etc.
      • Aka B1 needs to be in E2, B2 needs to be in E3, B3 needs to be in E4, and B5 needs to be in position E5.
    • You can push/pull boxes to move them around. E.g. "push Huge box north"
    • You can see the position of the boxes by typing "boxes".
    • There is a strength check, so you may need to push/pull multiple times for it to be successful.
    • Once the boxes are arranged, you can "climb through hole". Be warned, there are some aggressive catfolk on the other side of the hole!
  • In the cramped dark room on the other side of the hole are two aggressive panthers (one ninja and one thief).
    • To exit the room you need to "climb through hole" again. Normal wimpys will not work, and if someone moves the boxes on you, I suspect you will take fall damage.
    • The thief will occasionally strangle you preventing you from fleeing for a few rounds.
  • There is a Nighclaw Bar and Tavern in the eastern side of the tree
    • You can not have any weapons in your inventory to enter. This includes shovels. There are lockers in the front room that you can rent for 100 gold to put your equipment in. You can also put your weapons in an equipment frame and walk in...
    • In the next room is Luchi 'Tangy' Tangilla.
      • If you ask him about "story" he says he is too bored for telling stories and wants spicier food. Someone recommends the food in the casino.
    • There is also the owner Yalac. You can ask him about food and he will give you a menu which you can order from.
    • In the next room is a party of adventures named after drinks (like many of the other parties in the wizard Shinarae's areas).
      • They were pretty easy to kill for my monk (no weapons required)
      • Interesting items they dropped:
        • A locker key (has the number 5 inscribed on it). No idea where this goes.
        • A robe shaped chunk of air
        • A bottle of salve which grants magical and cold resistance for 10 minutes
Treetop Village (Southeast Tree):
  • In the south is a jailhouse and a suspicious lever on the wall...
    • If you try to pull the lever, the jailer will stop you.
    • I suspect the lever opens up the cells...
    • There are three cells. You can look into them by typing "peek cell #"
  • In the northeast is a peaceful green garden protected by a gardener
    • If you try to "pick fruit" the gardener will stop you.
    • You can also "pick flower".
    • Warning: If you attack the farmer they will cast "create mud". This causes you to get stuck in a mud pit and be unable to flee...
    • If you kill the gardener, they drop a ton of fruits and herbs, and you can pick more from the area. So this is a great spot of you have the skill plant lore.
Treetop Village (Northeast Tree):
  • In the southeast is a well stocked herb store
    • There's some interesting finds you can purchase here if you need fruits/herbs
    • The clerk Asharra will also buy random things like essences that most vendors will not. Note, she doesn't pay much (only 1 gold for a essence, which can be sold to a player for 2k gold), but it is interesting.
  • In the northeast is a catfolk temple
    • It has very strong Egyptian themes, with them worshiping a female cat god (Bast)
    • In the center of the temple is an acolyte
      • You can give them money as a donation. Not sure what this does if you give them a lot of money...
      • They also will not answer questions about the statue in the alter room...
    • In the north of the temple is a massage room where two catfolk are getting rowdy
      • I "don't" think you can get a massage here...
    • In the western quiet room are two more catfolk who are flirting
      • I'm beginning to think Bast may be the catfolk god of love... Which is (very) loosely based on Egyptian themes (good health, pregnancy, etc)
      • You can "break branch off tree" to collect a branch with flowers.
        • Not sure what this can be used for.
    • In the southwest part of the temple is the high altar to the goddess Bast
      • If you as the priestess about Bast, she recommends looking around and indulging in the pleasures available.
      • If you ask her about "pleasure" she will say that she unfortunately can't directly help out worshipers.
      • If you ask here about the statue, she says you will figure it out...
    • In the high altar is a statue with four holes in the base (gold, bronze, copper, silver).
      • You can place items in the holes by using the command
        • place <item> into <color> circle
        • Not sure what to place or what this does...
    • In the south of the temple is the spa
      • You can "sit in pool" but you need to remove all your armour (You can keep it in your inventory, but you just can't wear it)
      • The water is relaxing. Not sure if it helps you regen or not.
      • Side note, if you look at the pool it will tell you all of the players it contains.
    • In the east of the temple is the chamber of edible and audible delights
      • If you "search table" you will find various foods.
      • There are also five musical stands which are empty...
Treetop Village (North Tree):
  • In the south is a public library
    • You can browse books to see the list of them, borrow book, or return book
    • You can only have one book out at a time so you need to return a book once you are done with it.
    • Books:
      • Old blue leather book: Principle of the Lever (Boring)
      • Thick red leather book: (WARNINGWill activate a trap when you read it that does damage to you, will break your equipment, and then the book will self-destruct so you can't return it.
      • Large green cloth tome: Exploits of Count Guido Bonitomas fighting the Drow jade spide.
      • Old green wood book: Mentions that a ceremony is needed to summon Kurya and challenge him. The book itself does not have it, but it does mention that such a ceremony would likely be heavily protected. This is related to the quest in the orc samurai area [Link].
      •  Large blue paper book: (WARNING): The book details a ceremony to Omicron, spirit of steel and of fire. Once you read it the book burns up and you can no longer return it.
      •  Thick black cloth tome: An English to Drow dictionary. It will allow to to translate between the two.
        • This could be interesting to use in a couple of drow areas...
      •  Small grey wood tome: Book on mine shaft safety.
        • After reading it you "might be better equipped to survive a cave-in". Not sure if this actually does anything but I didn't see any status effects applied to my character
      •  Small brown leather book: Gemstone alloy book
        • This describes the process for merchants to alloy gemstones. It says the white opal and the blue topaz can be merged into the green emerald.
Treetop Village (Northwest Tree):
  • In the southeast of the tree is a weapon and armour store
    • This is amazing for selling all the equipment that is dropped around this area
    • Great place for low level characters to make some money.
  • In the south of the tree is a casino
    • You can play dice using the command "gamble <amount> platinum on <roll>"
      • You can see the odds by looking at the sign
      • This is one of the few gambling games in Batmud that have favorable player odds (due to the 1-1 automatic payout on a 12):
        • Best bets: 5, 7, or 9 (+8.33% player edge).
        • Next best: 6 or 8 (+5.56% player edge).
        • Fair bets: 4 or 10 (0% edge).
        • Worst bets: 3 or 11 (house edge 2.78%)
      • You need platinum coins to play though, so make sure you bring them. Also, this is still a game of luck, so you can have a bad run and still go bankrupt.
      • Warning: You can pick up a gambling addition (an in-game status effect) if you gamble a lot.
      • There is also a time delay on how often you can play this game. I'll admit I'm responsible for that since I reported this as an unlimited money hack to the wizards. For my trouble all my character got was 15 task points and a gambling addition ;p Still, it was the right call since I do like this game and unlimited money would not help it.
    • There is a backroom poker game you can go to if you exit via "back"
      • The card game is only for "regulars" though so I don't know if you can actually play or not.
      • If the waitress asks if you want any free snacks you can say "yes" to get some fruit.
      • If you ask the dealer about poker they will give you an empty deck of cards.
        • I think collecting all the cards is a side quest...
  • In the northwest is a simple home for two catfolk you can enter without a key
    • Inside is A.J's wife.
    • If you ask her about "husband" she says he is coming home.
    • If you ask her about "A.J." she says her good for nothing husband is in trouble for vanishing on her. She then asks if you could find him...
Lion's Castle:
  • In the antechamber to the throne room are two lion guards with magical maces which will block you from moving north. They see invisible so you can't sneak by them.
  • North of there is  throne room
    • I found a halberd on the floor (others had come by and killed everything), that had an interesting description, but when I cast identify on it showed it wasn't anything special.
    • There was also some gold plate armour which was super heavy and had a special description, but also looked "normal".
  • The room next to the throne room is King Leo's bedroom.
    • There is a locked treasure chest in the room...
      • The mage spell "lock biter" can open it up though...
      • In the chest is a handwritten note. It says...
        • To the fine adventurers who kept King Leo off my back while I looted the castle treasury, you have my thanks.
        • Trilloch Was Here, Teliminus 20, 1016
      • This is likely a reference to the Trilloch's zoo area.
    • On the nightstand is the book "the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe..."
    • I tried searching/entering the wardrobe in the room but couldn't find anything special.
  • There is a lavish bathroom with a tub you can get in and out of.
    • Not sure of the benefit of this, but it's something you can do...
  • North of the bathroom is a locked door.
    • I used the mage spell "lock biter" to get through it. The next room is the guest bedroom/.
    • I couldn't find anything special about this room.
  • There is a dining room in the east side of the castle
    • You can "swipe place settings from table" four times to steal silver spoons, knives, and forks.
    • You can also burn things in the fireplace, though I don't know what good that does.
      • You need to light the fireplace first with something (like a torch)
  • There is a kitchen north of the dining room
    • If you have a soup bowl, you can "pour soup into bowl"
    • If you "grab shape" you can pull a sea creature out of the tank and drop it on the floor.
      • You can then attack and kill them if you want. They are worth around 500 exp
      • Note, you can be hurt grabbing shapes and then you will see your blood smeared on the tank.
