Colosseum
Continent: Lucetium
Description:
- A very remote midbie area that is limited to players under level 50
- Good experience and the guards drop equipment that you can sell for a lot of money if you can haul it away.
- Seems like one of the "forgotten areas" of Batmud. It's very unlikely you'll run into other players here.
- As of this writing, there are no nearby navigator trees
- Also there are no nearby player cities.
- IMPORTANT: This area appears to be closed during Batmud's winter. You can tell the season in every continent by using the 'time all' command.
Level Limit:
Quests:- Level 50 level limit
- This is enforced by a colossal gate guard (Blocking Monster)
- LQ 45: Victi Vicimus
- There are two possible end bosses for this quest, a lion, and a gladiator
- Of the two, the gladiator is much, much easier. The lion will chase you around the arena preventing you from healing.
- I'd strongly recommend waiting to complete this quest on a day the gladiator is the end boss. You can tell the boss based on the poster in the barracks.
Equipment:
- Golden Laurel Wreath
- +6 constitution helmet
- Reward for the LQ
- Description: Link
- Breastplates and helmets dropped by guards are worth around 2.5k gold each
Open Questions:
- Does the colosseum stay open during the winter?
- (Answer) I just went back in the winter and the colosseum was fully closed. I could not enter it. So I guess it is closed during the winter.
- How do you get into the other barracks and what is in them?
- Why was the middle barracks open when I first did the quest, but not open when I went back in the autumn?
- How do you unlock the door in the dungeon (the one that doesn't have the tigers)?
- I suspect this is how the tigers make it into the arena when you are doing the quest.
- In the 1st level of the colosseum, in the northern most part of it, there is a door to the south that is locked. How do you get in there and what can you find there?
- I suspect this is how the gladiators make it into the arena when you are doing the quest.
Entrance and (Hidden) Barracks:
- When you enter there is a Colossal Gateguard who will block any players above level 50 from entering the area
- Like most level limit blocking monsters, this guard is tough!
- There is a sign at the entrance saying the colosseum will be closed during the winter
- I validated that the colosseum is closed during the winter. Luckily winter only lasts a couple of real life days. Still this is annoying when trying to do the level quest.
- Immediately the first secret to explore is to go east from the entrance. This is an unmarked exit and will take you to the barracks
- That's an interesting choice by the wizard coding this. The barracks are listed in the room description, but nothing implies you can walk there.
- If you have a minion or riding a mount, you'll leave them behind when going to the barracks.
- There are three barracks. You can enter the middle one without a key where you will find a stressed office worker who will not answer your questions
- Update: I went back in the autumn and the barracks were locked as well. I could not find a key to it.
- If you look at the board behind him, it says who will be fighting today. This changes day to day. This determines who you see wandering around. Aka if the gladiators are fighting, you won't see them in the inner arena. I think this impacts the level quest since you'll need to fight whatever is fighting.
- "The lions will fight today"
- "The gladiators will fight today"
- The top/northwest barracks is locked, but outside of it is a bitter and complaining servant
- If you "ask servant about job" they will reply that they hate their job, and they mention they have a servants badge vs. the badge they want.
- If you "ask servant about badge" they will complain more, and then give you their badge. They then quit and storm off.
- This is important for exploring the colosseum and completing the level quest.
Colosseum (First Floor and Dungeon):
- When you enter the colosseum go three northwest to encounter a tired guard.
- If you kill them they drop a dented black iron key that unlocks the gates to the colosseum
- Inside the inner colosseum there is a sturdy minotaur guard. They are tough, but you don't need to fight them. Just wear the badge given to you by the servant and they will let you pass into the office.
- In the office is Ludr, the head of the serving staff.
- Ludr asks for your badge so they can put you to work. If you give him your servant badge he exchanges that for a golden badge to wear. This is needed if you are doing the LQ.
- There is also a bulletin board in this room saying who is going to be fighting as well.
- If you go back to where the tired guard is/was, there is a staircase to the basement. The guard will block you from going down there, so if they respawned you'll need to kill them again
- In the basement Touth the animal keeper is wandering around. If you kill them they drop a key to the lion cages.
- There are sometimes lions in the cage. If you are doing the level quest kill them, since I think they can show up later to attack you.
- In the basement there is a third door/cage but none of the keys seem to unlock it...
Colosseum (Second Floor Viewing Area, and the Arena Floor):
- The viewing area can be reached by either of the two stairs from the first floor.
- The platform is shaped much like the arena below it
- Going to the western side of the platform you will come up on Gilljam the elite soldier, and Aviel the commander who will block you unless you have the golden badge from Ludr
- You are probably not going to be able to kill them. Get the badge if you are doing the LQ.
- Both of them comment how the Imperator is very protective of their kids and will punish anyone who flirts with them...
- In the next room you will briefly meet Batia, the old and trusted servant, who will see you and decide its time to take a break and leaves
- When you get into the room with the emperor you need to flirt with his kids if you are doing the LQ.
- With the daughter if you are a guy you can "flirt sipe"
- I've heard if you are a girl, you can tease the son
- Once you hit on one of the kids, the emperor gets mad, and pulls a lever opening a trapdoor that drops you into the main arena.
- This is a no summon area. For example if you are Tzarakk you can not summon your mount. Guess you are fighting on foot!
- You will then have to fight a furious gladiator or a bloodthirsty lion depending on what event is queued up.
- The gladiator is a the far south of the arena
- The lion will be in the western part of the arena but will roam around.
- If you didn't kill the gladiators or the lions in the colosseum earlier, they can join the boss and make your life a lot harder to kill them.
- If you killed the lions and the gladiators earlier all you need to do is kill the furious gladiator or lion to complete the quest.
- The gladiator hits hard, but doesn't have a lot of hitpoints and will not follow you.
- A good strategy is go into the room, fire off a quick spell/skill and then retreat to heal up.
- The lion is a lot tougher and since it moves it can ambush you when you are trying to heal.
- A takeaway from this is to try and complete the quest on a gladiator day!
- Once you kill the gladiator or lion a portal opens to exit and you complete the LQ:
- Text when you kill the gladiator:
- Gladiator tries to dodge your hit, but you are not fooled that easily!
- You score a CRITICAL hit!
- Cackling demonically you batter Gladiator with shield causing heart tissue to
- fly everywhere.
- Suddenly, a magical portal opens before you!
- The crowd goes silent and you can hear the emperor speak:
- 'You have fought bravely and earned your freedom. Go now, as a free being!' Congratulations! You have just completed Victi vicimus!
- You receive 36480 gold as a reward for completing the quest. You can hear the emperor speak from the balcony: 'The one who fights well shall not leave unrewarded. I grant you this as a token of your courage.'
- As a reward you get a golden laurel wreath (glowing) which gives +6 constitution
