Arthur

Continent: Laenor

Description:
  • Area based on the Monty Python Holy Grail movie
  • There seems like a few things in this area which make it feel half-done. As in the wizard coding it got tired and said "good enough"
    • For example some of the path descriptions have a generic title with a number after it
    • Also the characters don't respond to questions. Instead you need to "say" things.
    • Also there are typos. Such as the Castle Arg being referred to as the Castle Anthrax.
Quests:

  • LQ44: Holy Grail
    • One of the easier "high level" level quests. The final French Knight Captain hits very hard, but I can see better geared players being able to solo them.
    • That being said, it can only be completed by male characters which is a poor design decision. If your character has a different gender you will need a temporary sex change operation. This can be done for 500 gold in the Arelium hospital
Equipment:
  • None that I know of.
Special Explore Rooms:
  • The entrance to the Castle Arg is a special explore room
Open Questions:
  • I'm curious if the grail moves to other rooms randomly per boot.
  • I'm also curious if the black book of armaments only shows up once per boot and if not, how long does it take to respawn.
Map:
Map of King Arthur Area

Notes:

Entrance (Town, Forest, Peasant Castle, Arena):
  • The town is suffering from the black plague so most everything is closed
    • The pub is closed so no drinks can be bought
    • The shop is closed so you can't buy/sell equipment
  • To the north is an old woman and Dennis the peasant
    • If you are doing the level quest you need to "dig" in this room, but Dennis and the woman will block you
    • Therefore kill Dennis and the woman first
    • When you "dig" you should find a book. This can only happen once per boot though
    • If you dig and you find nothing, then that implies someone else already did this part of the quest and you may need to wait for the server to reboot to try again. Ed Note: I'm not 100% sure this is once per boot. But it does seem to have a very long cooldown if it is not.
  • In the seating area of the arena there is a vendor
    • If you are working on the LQ, "buy sandwich" from the vendor.
      • This costs 100 gold
    • Make sure you do this before you confront the Black Knight. Otherwise you'll have to backtrack to grab the sandwich and potentially need to kill the Black Knight a second time.
  • In the killing floor of the arena, a gladiator will block you from leaving
    • If you don't want to kill the gladiator, use the command "beg" and you will be kicked out of the room.
  • The black knight is guarding a river crossing and will block you from going north
    • As a quick FYI, you can sneak past the knight if you are invisible.
    • They will cast "Greater Spores" which hits fairly hard
    • They will also cast Paralyze which will stun your character
    • They will drop some arms and legs when you kill them
    • They also drop a helm which sells for around 4k gold
  • In the peasant castle there is a vending machine
    • It sells torches, snacks, and moonpies
    • None of these are useful for the quest
North of River:
  • Be careful since there is an aggressive wandering three headed knight that will attack you
    • The knight will block one exit, saying "Where do you think you're going? I'm not finished with you"
    • To escape you need to either kill them, or retreat the other way.
  • To the west in town there is a trial of a witch (taken out of the Monty Python skit)
    • You can't interact with them but it is a funny skit
  • Going north you will find a road with a tent
    • You can "enter tent" to go into the tent with an old man
    • The man tells you to "ask me, I know where it is what you want", but if you ask him anything he ignores you.
    • If you "say grail" the man will say to seek out Tim the Enchanter who will lead you to a cave. Then you will encounter a bridge what no man has ever crossed
  • Outside the castle of anthrax there is a door going into it
    • "Knock door" to have someone open the door for you
    • After that you can use the "castle" exit to go into the castle.
    • Going north, if your character is a male character, you can "spank zoot" and she will give you a key. This is useful if you are doing the level quest.
      • Note: This only works if your character is a male. I know, not cool.
  • Leaving the castle and going to the Ni village you will meet a woman who has peculiar views about shrubbery.
    • "Say Ni" and the woman will run away and Roger the Shrubber will ride in.
    • If you are doing the level quest, you can "buy shrubbery" to purchase a shrubbery. Roger will then leave. This costs 100 gold.
  • You can then leave and give the shrubbery to the knights of Ni and they will let you pass
    • (or you could just kill them....)
    • Note: You need to give this to the biggest Knight. For me it was the third one. If you give it to one of the other two, nothing will happen and you will need to get another shrubbery.
North of Knights of Ni:
  • Tim the enchanter is pretty powerful monster if you attack him
    • If you say "grail" around him, he tells you in the lair there is text that tells you where to find the grail. But that lair is protected by a fearsome beast.
    • If you kill him he drops his "powerful staff"
      • I don't think this is related to the quest
      • It allows you to use the "flame" command if you wield it
        • This did around 50 damage to me and threw me from my mount
  • In the room with Brother Maynard, if you obtained the book by digging it out of the dung earlier, give to him to him to obtain the holy hand grenade.
  • Going west you will come to a rabbit blocking the way into a cave
    • DO NOT ATTACK THE RABBIT
    • Instead if you have the hand grenade use the command "throwgren" which will kill the rabbit.
    • Note: As long as you kill the rabbit one time, you can pass by the rabbit if it respawns later. This is important since it does not appear the book respawns to make more holy hand grenades.
  • The cave is a typical batmud maze. As in it doesn't map to a normal map.
    • Inside is the The legendary Black Beast of ARG which is aggressive and wanders
    • One way through: w4,s,n,e2
    • Eventually you will hit a locked door. You can unlock it with the key from castle anthrax.
      • If you read the wall it says:
        • Here may be found the last words of Joseph of Arimathea. He who is valiant and pure of spirit may find the grail in the castle of AAAAAAAAAARRG.
  • At the bridge of death an old man blocks the way
    • "say ask" to initiate the questions
    • Each time you answer a question you will step forward. Wait a bit and the old man will ask another question
    • If you fail the test, the old man will banish you back to the black knight at the river crossing.
    • Questions:
      • What is your name?
        • Answer: "say {{Your character's name}}
      • What is your quest?
        • Answer: "say grail"
      • Who is the king?
        • Answer: "say Arthur"
  • Continuing north you get to a lake where there is a castle in the middle of it
    • Use the command "call ferryman" to summon the ferryman
    • Give the cheese sandwich which you bought earlier from the vendor in the arena to the ferryman
      • Other food will not work
      • They will then transport you to the castle
    • Side note: The castle is incorrectly labeled in the room description. It is really the Castle of Arg, and not the Castle of Anthrax
  • You can unlock the castle door using the key from the cave
    • The next room is a special explore room!
      • You gain 28829 additional explore experience from finding this place!
  • In the western dining room you can "search table" to get a leg of lamb
    • This is needed to get back across the river
  • The courtyard is filled with French knights including one knight captain who wanders and is aggressive.
    • The knight captain will turn the other knights aggressive against you as well
    • You need to kill the knights to go into the doors as they will block you
    • The doors are also locked.
    • Pro Tip: You do not need to kill the aggressive French Knight, and in fact that Knight is much more difficult than the other ones you do need to kill. So you can wait for the Knight to move to a different room and totally avoid them.
  • Where each of the French knights are you can "search pot" to reveal a key to the door. Each door has a different key
    • If you don't immediately pick up the key, the knight will grab it.
    • Regardless, you'll need to kill the knight because they block your way into the door.
  • For me, the first room I search to the southwest held the Holy Grail.
    • It was just sitting on the floor. No need to search for it.
    • I'm not sure if the rooms change between boots or not.
  • Going back to the ferryman, give them the leg of lamb to get back across the water
    • On the other side, I saw that he dropped the cheese sandwich I had given him earlier.
    • I suspect he drops the food so you don't get stranded on one side or the other.
Completing the Quest:
  • The final step now that we have the grail is to find King Arthur and give it to him
    • This is a bit of a challenge, since King Arthur wanders around and there is an aggressive three headed knight wandering around as well.
    • I once found him in Zoot's castle, so he really does wander.
  • To complete the quest, give the grail to the King. Below is what happens when you finish it:
    • You give the Most Holy Grail to King.
    • King Arthur says 'Thank you my friend, my quest is over.'
    • King Arthur says 'I shall reward you for your trouble.'
    • Congratulations! You have just completed Holy grail!
    • You receive 37676 gold as a reward for completing the quest.
Kill Tracker:
  • A corpse collector
    • 3900 exp
    • Drops a wooden spoon
  • Old woman
    • 4200 exp
  • Dennis the peasant
    • 4700 exp
  • The Black Knight, guarding the bridge
    • 9600 exp
    • Drops arms and legs when you kill them
    • Also drops a helm which sells for around 4k

  • A French knight
    • 30000 exp
