Description:
  • Most people come here for Level Quest 40 (Sacrifice Staff)
  • To enter this area the first time, you need two people to open the gates.
    • After that, the person inside can open up a back entrance into the area

    • Dropped by the Urvile Loremaster
    • Not sure what this ring does. It looks like it should be valuable though.
    • Hmm, doesn't appear to survive reboot so must be an area quest item
Open Questions:
  • What's up with the jester and their "time bomb"
    • Also what is up with the key and the candle you find with them?
  • How do you get across the pool of acid, and where does that slide go to?
  • How do you get across the rickety bridge?
  • Where does the portal take you in the hall of mirrors.

Notes:

Entrance (and Hotel Lobby):
  • Important Disclaimer: You will need two players to enter the area. One player needs to open/close the gates. The other player goes into the hotel/creche and then can lower a rope for everyone else.
  • Go to the lever room and "move lever"
    • This lowers/raises the gate in this room and the next room.
    • Only one gate is open at once. So a player needs to go into the next room, and then have a player outside swap the gate positions so they can advance
  • The player inside the room needs to go "west" and then "search/break mirror" to go into a room with a theif and a mechanical doohickey
    • Take the Mechanical Doohickey and leave
  • Now enter the elevator which leads you to an empty elevator shaft.
    • Climb the shaft to enter the elevator repair room
    • Take the rope here and "tie rope to post" to allow other people to join you.
    • People can now use the window exit to get into and leave Lord Foul's Creche (and hotel)
  • Give the doohickey to the repairnman to fix the elevator. The elevator will now be available to use.
  • If the elevator isn't present, you can "push button" to call it.
Elevator:
  • Another Important Disclaimer:
    • After a while, the elevator will break again. If you are on floors 1-4 you will be stuck until somebody repairs the elevator.
    • I'd recommend keeping your explorations to 10 - 15 minutes and then leave and repair the elevator before continuing.
  • You can "push X" to move between floors
  • Floor list:
    • (U) Upper Level.
      • Elevator repairman and window to enter/leave the area
    • (E) Entrance
      • The hotel Lobby
    • (1) First floor
      • Pit of acid
    • (2) Second floor
      • Locked up Jester (with key)
    • (3) Third floor
      • Urvile Loremaster, and altar to sacrifice the staff for LQ40
    • (4) Fourth floor
      • Lord Foul and lots of dying
First Floor:
  • You can break the pipe in the dingy hallway to release water which will flood the surrounding rooms.
    • This is helpful to dilute the acid in the next room
    • But.... this was not enough on its own to allow me to traverse the acid room
    • The water will eventually dry up and it takes a while for this pipe to reset its water level.
  • There is an acid pool blocking your progress in the next room
    • Water walking does not help to cross it.
Second Floor:
  • When you enter the second floor, you can "pull torch" to enter a jail cell
    • Inside the jail cell is a jester who has been locked up, a big ugly grey key, and a noxious looking black candle
    • The jester will not answer questions, but keeps talking about a "time bomb" they still have
    • To exit this room, "pull torch" again
  • In the next room is a rickety bridge crossing a big gap.
    • If you attempt to cross the bridge, it will break and you will end up on the third floor.
    • You can also "jump hole" to head down to the 3rd level in a more controlled fashion
Third Floor:
  • To complete the Level Quest, from the elevator room go SE, E, to the room with a low ceiling
    • You might want to pause for a minute and get ready for a big fight. The Urvile Loremaster is a 100k EXP monster
    • Then go north and kill the Urvile Loremaster
    • After that, go NE to the alter room and "sacrifice staff of law" to complete the quest.
    • Text when you complete the quest:
      • Congratulations! You have just completed Sacrifice staff!
      • You receive 10072 gold as a reward for completing the quest.
      • You gently reach out and place the Staff of Law on the altar before returning to your knees in humble respect.
      • The braziers suddenly flare violently and the room begins to tremor. 
      • Suddenly, a loud voice explodes within your brain:
      • A fine job my despicable servant.  Know that your master is pleased with you and has decided to grant you a most vile and hideous boon:  completion of level quest 40.
  • If you explore through the Urviles to the East, one of them in the room with the captive human will cast anti-magic field which is really annoying.
    • Side note, some of the humor here is not great. I hate to sound like a prude, but this is a neat area that I feel could be better if they changed some of the sex jokes around.
  • Some of the Urviles will also flee when they get down to around 15% health, which can cause lots of problems as well.
  • There is a cavewight to the south at a dead end that is digging in a pile of boulders.
    • I'd like to explore that area more, but I could only pop in and out since the monsters were too tough for me.
Fourth Floor:
  • Warning: There is a vicious urvile that wanders around this level so it might be in the entrance when you step off the elevator
    • It will track/follow you for a while if you attempt to run away
    • The Urvile knows how to use the elevator, so even if you escape into it and go to a different room it will find you.
  • In the murkey pond room there is a dead muckmonster....
    • This was kind of a letdown actually...
  • In the hall of levers there are three levers and a scoreboard.
    • The scoreboard goes between 0 and 999
      • If the score goes above 999, it wraps around to 0, If it goes below 0 it wraps around to 999.
      • Pulling the blue lever increments the count by 10
      • Pulling the red lever increments the count by 100
      • Pulling the green lever decrements the count by 101
      • If you pull the levers too many times it will summon aggressive Urviles that will attack you.
    • I assume if you get the scoreboard to either 0 or 999 (not sure which) it will raise the gate and let you enter the portal.
    • My recommendation would be to pull the green lever until the score ends in a '0'. Then pull the red/green levers to make the full score read '0 0 0'
