Giantkillers

Continent: Rothikgen

Quests:
  • LQ 39: Enchanted Cloak
    • This level quest is almost impossible to complete on your own. You'll need friends to kill the final boss.
    • There are a lot of items to collect for this level quest. They are detailed in this blog post below, and they are spread over the entire map.
    • The items seem to save over reboot. You should be able to collect many of them yourself so that way when you are in a party to complete it you can speed things up for your team members.
Equipment:
  • Enchanted Dagger
    • Dropped by Mean Looking Man in the secret breakroom
    • He's pretty easy to kill. The dagger is "ok" and does electrical damage
  • A smooth pair of gloves (+avoid):
    • Dropped by the LQ mage.
    • Worth around 7k if you sell it. It might be useful to some players though
  • A good luck amulet (+1 sp):
    • Dropped by the LQ mage
    • It is held and does not go in the amulet slot, despite its name.
    • Worth around 3k. Less useful for players unless you really need spell power restore.
  • A magic cloak (+max spr):
    • Awarded for completing the level quest
    • This cloak is bound to you once you get it, and you can only get one per rebirth. Don't get rid of it or you likely won't ever see it again.

Special Explore Room:

  • The Hide-A-Way with the Queen is a special explore room
Open Questions:
  • It seems like there is still some unresolved mysteries here around the queen and her son. I'm also curious what happens if you kill the giant.
  • What is in the room that the Legendary Giant-Killer Dwarf is blocking?
Map:
Map of Giantkillers

Notes:

Travel to the Area:
  • Giantkillers is on an island in Sout-West Rothikgen. You'll need to swim to get there (if you don't have a boat).
  • The least swimming option is to go all the way around Rothikgen using the roads and then swim down to the North side of the island
  • I usually get lazy and simply travel the Shadowkeep, go West, and then swim from there.
  • There may be a navigator tree leading here as well...
    • As the time of this writing, there is a navigator tree just west of Shadowkeep which will transport you for 333 gold.
Entrance (Path):
  • There are a lot of messages talking about the long grass at the entrance of Giantkillers
    • If you "search grass" you will find a grasshopper
    • This grasshopper is an item. You can pick it up. (THIS IS NEEDED FOR THE LEVEL QUEST)
  • In the next room there is a hermit
    • The hermit casts mirror image if you try to kill him, which is annoying
    • The hermit says the following things:
      • "There is no swimming allowed in the park"
      • "If you get in the mood to dig, better do it here"
        • Note: I tried to dig with my shovel but nothing happened
      • "The giant is fond of young human girls"
      • "Go south if you are brave and in groups, all others go SE"
        • Note: This matches up with the warning on the post as well
      • If you enter the well, bring lots of torches"
      • "Don't go looking around the bottom of the well
South-East (Newbie Direction + Carnival):
  • To the east there is a construction shack where a worker is breaking into the private booze stock of their boss and getting drunk.
    • The plans on the table are not for building a carnival but for making a party! :)
  • The foreman has a very nasty bruise on his left thumb ... which seems weird and oddly specific.
    • The foreman will cast a really powerful area effect spell if you attack them. Absolutely destroys Mages and Riftwalkers.
  • At the pony ride, you can "ask attendant about pony" and they will charge you 2 gold coins to "ride the pony".
    • As far as I can tell, nothing actually happens beside losing 2 gold.
  • The popcorn seller will sell you popcorn for 10 gold. Just "ask seller about popcorn"
  • In the abandoned cotton candy stand, if you "look at boxes" it summons four aggressive rats
    • I was able to do this around four times before the rats stopped coming
    • When you look in the boxes a cracker appears on the ground. Pick it up. (THIS IS NEEDED FOR THE LEVEL QUEST)
  • In the breakroom, if you look at table and then look at cards you will find that the cards are marked (aka someone is cheating)
    • The cards also drop to the ground and you can pick them up (THIS IS NEEDED FOR THE LEVEL QUEST)
  • Also in the breakroom, if you "search lockers" it will reveal a secret room
    • In the room a "Mean looking man" is selling employees drugs
    • He drops an "enchanted dagger" that does electrical damage and sells for around 900 gold (so will pay for the price of your Navigator Tree here)
  • In the petting zoo in the deer park, there is a sign saying the deer's get a bit aggressive during feeding time, and if you look at them you'll notice one of them has a burr in their fur.
    • "Feed cracker to deer". This will cause a prickly bur to end up in your inventory. (THIS IS NEEDED FOR THE LEVEL QUEST).
    • Note: I'm not sure what hint highlights you should feed crackers to a deer. That doesn't seem like normal deer food. I read a spoiler for this.
  • In the chicken coop if you "clean coop" then it will reveal a secret area
    • Not sure what would lead you to this... I'll admit I read a spoiler which is how I found it.
    • Ahh, later found out the wandering handyman says that he needs to clean the chicken coop.
  • In the cavern below the coop an aggressive sloth was too tough for me to kill so I just rushed past it. There are two easy rats right after it, or you can keep running and the next room doesn't have anything.
    • In the large sloth room (Underground Spring), you can "fish" to discover another room under the springs. It's not actually underwater so you don't need to worry about running out of air.
  • In the northern part of the caverns there is a cliff. You can "climb down" to get to another room with a large bat in it. The room description implies this area is under the river.
  • At the eastern end of the cavern you crawl through an opening and can't get back. Going up/down lead you to the waterfall and you can't go back to the previous cliff. This makes things difficult to map.
  • Talking about difficult to map... Jumping into the river from the waterfall causes all sorts of interesting things to happen. If you jump from the killer cliff you end up going deeper.
  • Treading water at the bottom of the waterfall will take you to a cavern. To the east there is a beefy seamonster that I'd recommend leaving alone. If you continue to go down you will find aggressive castle guard who will attack you.
    • The guard drops an ornate ring. Pick this up. (THIS IS NEEDED FOR THE LEVEL QUEST).
  • Going forward lead to a guard room full of aggressive guards. Unless you have a good party this is pretty much an instant death room.
    • Note: You do not need to go any further if you are doing the level quest.
  • The next room is the Queen's hideout which has more aggressive guards.
    • The Queen also casts an anti-magic spell
    • The Queen is very sad because she took her child's crutches away to "make him stronger" and he wasn't able to flee with her from the castle.
    • In good news, THIS IS A SPECIAL EXPLORE ROOM!
South (Difficult Direction + Giants):
  • Mitten the dwarf seems like she would have some stories but she doesn't respond to questions and doesn't say much
  • Going east, there is a slimy wall. If you "look at slime" a slime will appear and attack you.
    • The slime drops a slime gem. Pick this up. (THIS IS NEEDED FOR THE LEVEL QUEST).
  • Going further east, you encounter a well and a partial description of something.
    • If you look enough it spells out: "This is the hillgiant's wife, she is drawing water from the well <cyan aura>"
    • You can also look at the wife. For some reason that also returns a partial description of my characeter...
    • The wife keeps saying that she hopes her son doesn't find out about the wizard in the well
    • She is constantly casting protection spells such as "reflector shield" and stoneskin
    • She also blocks access to the well
    • We'll return to the well later...
  • Going west, you run into Belfrost the mage, whose name is mirrored for some reason. Aka you will see "BelFrost the mage egam eht tsorFleB"
    • He is looking for someone named Murgo
    • There is also a sign saying "Warning: Evil monster to the west!"
  • Goin further west, there is a legendary giant-killing dwarf, but nothing aggressive.
    • The dwarf does block you from going further south though.
      • The dwarf will block invisible characters as well. There is no sneaking by them.
    • I managed to make it into the room after someone else killed the dwarf and didn't see anything of value.
  • Going back to the main intersection and then going up and into the Giant's home, there is a fur coat in the common room you can pick up. (THIS IS NEEDED FOR THE LEVEL QUEST).
  • If you "search coatrack" it will transport you to a secret room below where the giant who owns the house is hanging out in his "sex dungeon"
    • Yup, it's a sex dungeon that his wife does not know about. That's written about in the description of the room....
  • Going west into the master bedroom and then north into the closet. The room description mentions a shiny dagger sparling in the torchlight, but I can't actually get a description about it or interact with it...
    • You can "jump shelf" to get to the top of the shelf where there are some gold coins you can pick up. There is also a dagger, so that's where the description came from...
  • Going to the south closet, you can "search dresses". This takes you to a different room that "acts" like the original room, (if you go north it takes you back to the bedroom), and there are some gold coins on the floor.
  • Back to the giant's wife. I attempted to kill her. A couple of things about the fight:
    • She casts a bunch of protective spells. Reflector shield in particular is rough since I about killed myself hitting her.
    • She casts "Destroy weapon" so your gear is at risk if you can't kill her quickly
    • If you are willing to risk your equipment and are trying to solo her, I found some success in setting parry up high since she didn't have any offensive skills/spells that she used.
    • Note: You can totally bypass her by going all the way to the north of the map (west of Jack and Jill). So this fight is optional (which annoyingly I found out later...)
  • Going down the well all the way to the bottom, you can "swim" to dive even deeper
  • In the room below the well there is a knight that blocks you from going forward, saying "let him rest in peace"
    • This knight casts a number of protection spells like mirror image
    • The knight will also block you even if you are invisible.
    • There are also a number of wandering undead monsters (up to four) that are aggressive and can show up here
    • If you go up from this room you end up on a ledge with some aggressive rats and even more wandering aggressive monsters. (Don't recommend this).
    • To get out of this room you need to use the command "squirm"
  • Going past the knight to the east is the King who has just killed the bandits. This is where the wandering undead come from, so they may be in this room too.
    • If you kill the king, he drops a cloak. (THIS IS NEEDED FOR THE LEVEL QUEST).
Old Mage (Completing the Level Quest):
  • When you get to the darkness room by the well (either directly after coming down from the hill in the petting zoo, or two east from the well), type "dig" to get to the old mage
  • If you ask the old mage about help he will ask you to get him a cloak
  • IMPORTANT: If you give him items out of order of what he asks, the quest will bug and you will not be able to complete it!
  • IMPORTANT: The mage will turn aggressive after receiving all of the items.
  • Background Info: It used to be the mage could destroy equipment, but that was removed by Batmud Wizards to make the level quest easier to complete.
  • Order to Give Items:
    1. Cloak
    2. Ornate ring
    3. Fur coat
    4. Grasshopper
    5. Prickly bur
    6. Slime gem
    7. Deck of cards
  • Mage comments:
    • Oldmage says 'Ah yes the ring, good good. you will make a fine apprentice. I'm glad you came to me. Now I need some raw material. A LOT of fur I think. Go find me a big, no a GIGANTIC fur coat of some kind. Now run along slav..errr I mean apprentice.'
    • Oldmage says 'Ah, nice work. You found me some fur I can use to mend the cloak with. This will do nicely. Hrm, I'm beginning to feel a bit hungry. See if you can find me something to eat. The bugs here are so bland and tasteless. Almost anything would be better then the bugs here. Perhaps something nice and crunchy. And not too green. Now be gone and don't return until you find something.'
    • Oldmage says 'Ah exactly what I needed. But now the cloak seems to be a bit prickly. I need something to smooth it down. Some kind of gell or maybe some slime even. Solidified slime would be best I think. I'll need some of that for the enchantment I want to add to the cloak.'
    • Oldmage says 'Ah, you are fairing better then I would have ever have hoped. This crap has to mix, but while it's doing that why don't you go find me something that I can pass my time with? I've always liked to play with those little paper things in the shapes of rectangles. What are the called? Cods? no that's not it. They're about as big as your palm...ummm and they're marked sometimes. Go find them. and perhaps I'll let you keep this cloak.
    • Oldmage says 'Ah yes, Cards. That's what their called. Thank you very much. But I've changed my mind about the cloak. Now, go away before I decide to kill you. You are such a gullible person. HAHA! You have 10 second to leave or else...'
  • Once you kill the mage you will automatically pick up the cloak and complete the quest:
  • Quest text:
    • Congratulations! You have just completed Enchanted cloak!
    • You receive 24358 gold as a reward for completing the quest.
    • As mage dies, Laki grabs a cloak from the corpse.
  • Note: You can only get one cloak from this quest per reincarnation. The cloak is bound to you. Do not get rid of it!
